Online Creative Listening for Adults Great Violinists of the 20th Century

The violin fills one of the most essential roles in classical music. In orchestras the principal of the first violin section is called the Concertmaster, a leadership role exceeded only by the conductor. The sound of a violin can singlehandedly fill a room, even the largest of concert halls, but it can also be soft and expressive. The great musical form of the string quartet consists of a cello, a

viola, and two violins. Thanks to recordings we will be able to listen to and compare several of the greatest violinists of the last century, similar to and different from each other.

Music Theory In Person with Online Option

Have you ever wondered how music is constructed, or why certain things sound better than others? Do you want to understand more about the inner workings of music? In this fall session, we will explore the different elements of music, including things such as melody, harmony, rhythm, and others. You will learn about various aspects of music theory and practice applying them to your own music. At the end of this session, you will have a better understanding of how a composer creates their own music and develop strategies for listening to music more critically.

Students will be split into three groups. Beginner Music Theory will discuss the major scale and how its used with melody; and Intermediate will discuss how different types of scales can create different feelings and moods. The Advanced class is for students who

have taken 1-2 years of theory. If you are unsure about your level, please reach out to the instructor, Ryan Striker at [email protected]. Students are also welcome to sit in both levels the first day to determine which level best suits them. With Ryan Striker
