YOUTH & TEEN

Fencing

En Garde! Join the beginner fencing class and learn basic fencing skills, attack and defense

techniques, and move on to full speed bouting with electronic scoring. A fencing uniform will

eventually be required, but the instructor has club equipment to loan initially, until you are sure

you actually like the sport. Wear shorts, t-shirt, knee high athletic socks and sneakers.

Enrollment is open to beginners age 11-13 and all returning students.

SAT Classroom Test Prep

A great SAT score can equate to thousands of dollars in scholarship money and hundreds of

thousands in earning potential, so the higher your SAT score the better! You will take an official

retired SAT test the first day of class to identify the subject areas on which the instructor should

focus to increase your test score. Based on your pre-test results you will use the Cambridge

curriculum to reinforce skills, learn test mechanics and practice strategies to ace the test. You

will take another official retired SAT test again on the last day of the course to determine your

overall improvement. Class space is limited so register early. Textbook fee will be collected at

SAT Online Test Prep

What do “no penalty for guessing,” “no sentence completions” and “real world problems” bring

to mind? The new SAT! These and an entirely new redesign of the test are just a few of the

significant changes the College Board has made on the new SAT. Learn how you can be ready

CAREER & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) The Certified Pool Operator certification course is designed to provide the basic knowledge, techniques

and skills required to safely operate a pool or spa. The course will follow the NSPF Pool & Spa Operator

Handbook (provided) along with local regulatory codes and is taught by an NSPF certified instructor.

Essential calculations, how to carry out and interpret water tests for safe operation of aquatic facilities,

state and federal regulations and other important topics will be covered. Pass the open book exam and

earn your CPO certification. This course is available upon request with a minimum of six participants.

High School Equivalency (HSE) Test Prep courses are free to Texas residents. You must be at

least 19 years of age to register; however, 16 year olds may enroll with a signed court order and

or guardian accompanying them at registration to sign the permission form.

Massage Therapy

The massage therapy profession is growing rapidly in response to the public’s increasing

interest in promoting personal well-being and healthy living. This is an intensive, year-long

program and includes the 500 hours required in the State of Texas to become a licensed

Massage Therapist. The program is broken into two parts – part one is classroom lecture and

lab and part two is an internship. Once you have successfully completed all coursework in the

lecture, you will enroll in the internship in September (additional fee). If you are interested in

Prerequisites: At least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency

(HSE), acceptable criminal background and previous attendance in a program information

Ophthalmic Assistant Program The 50-hour Ophthalmic Assistant Program prepares students for entry level positions in

Ophthalmology, one of the fastest growing healthcare segments. Through classroom lecture and labs,

this program includes: anatomy and physiology of the eye; general principles of pharmacology;

prescriptions written for the eye; visual acuity; and tonometry (basic) and glaucoma. The program also

includes a review of ocular dressing procedures; maintenance of equipment and instruments and other
