• Select the opportunity score • Describe the current level of implementation.

In this box you will: Insert the 360-Degrees of Family Engagement measurable goal and initiative. The measureable goal should be one of the same annual goals for student achievement in a core content area, not a goal related to family engagement. The initiative is a program, project or process that assists in implementing the family engagement strategy to reach the measurable goal. The initiatives should be focused, but not so detailed that they describe an actual activity.

• Click Save and Go To Plan

6. Create your Plan. • Select a team member to monitor the work using the drop down menu. • Enter your SMART goal and description in box number 2 as shown in the example below. • Select a date by which you will implement this goal. • Click Save.

7. Click Add a Task to expand box 5a. • Box 5a: Insert the activity that the team will do to support the initiative. Include steps needed to

complete the activity, the National Standard(s) for Family-School Partnerships and School Keys Family and Community Engagement Standard(s) to which the activity correlates, as well as the resources available and the resources needed to complete the activity. It is also essential to include the family initiative benchmark and the family goal results. The family initiative benchmarks are the vital behaviors families must obtain in order to consider the activity successful. These benchmarks should be learned behaviors, knowledge, awareness, and/or attitudes that will support the achievement of the student-centered measurable goal, as well as help determine the success of the family-centered activity. The family goal results show the impact of family engagement in reaching the measurable goal. These results should measure if the family initiative benchmark was achieved as well as provide support to show if family engagement contributed to student achievement as defined by the measurable goal. Utilize both qualitative and quantitative data to set family goal results.

• Assign a person to be responsible for this task. • Establish a date by which this task will be completed or become routine.

Please keep in mind….the initiative and tasks listed in this example are for our universal activity. However, schools may choose to implement selective or intensive activities in combination with universal activities.

For example, the intensive initiative for this example could be “Launch a campaign with a targeted group of students to increase math remediation at home and improve parent awareness and understanding of how state assessments influence their children’s graduation from high school. This will be accomplished…” And a selective initiative for this example could be “Leadership training will be conducted for parents interested in assisting other parents with children’s homework and mentoring other families. This will be accomplished…” Then more tasks would follow. A school does not need to have a large number of tasks, but it should do need enough to support evidence of family engagement impact (or lack thereof) on the overall measurable goal. This example in its entirety can be found on page 54 of the 360-Degrees of Family Engagement process publication.

Of course, a critical component of any great plan is monitoring the plan for implementation. You will do this through Indistar.
