WHO After an unforgettable 6 months honeymoon through Asia and Oceania in 1994, we, Xenia en Eddy, agreed that we would take our children on a trip around the world. And now, in 2006 we are ready to go: our son Jonathan (10 years old) will miss the 5th year at school, and our daugther Vicky (7 years old) the third year, because….

WHAT… starting July 4th 2006 we take them on a 13 months TRIP AROUND THE WORLD.Our journey starts in Africa, the continent of the origin of mankind. Then we continue to Asia where we visit the coming super-power China. We will enjoy the beauty of Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand and cross the ocean via French-Polynesia and Easter Island to touch down in Chile. We will go as much south as we can, maybe even Antarctica, and go north again via Argentina to Brazil. We will go back in history searching for Inca treasures in Bolivia and Peru; and end our trip around the world in North-America to see the future in Cape Canaveral and celebrate Xenia's 40th birthday with her family in Boston. .

WHENDeparture: July 4, 2006 - Expected return: August 4, 2007

WHYWe do this for a variety of reasons: ¤ to make our honeymoon dream come true (a trip around the world with our kids);¤ to teach our kids to have more respect for other cultures and for nature; and¤ to undertake a common mission with the entire family.

We want it to be a meaningful and instructive year for us, for our kids and even for kids and adults who will not be traveling with us. It is more than just a holiday, we consider it to be a real project.

OUR PROJECT

¤ Daddy Eddy is professor environmental economics and “business & society” at de Karel de Grote Business School in Antwerp and is finishing his PhD on “cross cultural communication of environmental sustainability” at the Utrecht University. Mummy Xenia wants to make a contribution to the wellbeing of the current and future generations too.

Our family project therefore focuses on topics such as:SUSTAINABILITY, NATURE CONSERVATION & INTERCULTURAL RELATIONS.

¤ We wish to communicate those important subjects in an accessible way to a broad public in both Belgium and the Netherlands.

¤ We will do so through our travel reports and pictures on our own website www.FamilyAroundTheWorld.be, and the websites of our partners and the press as well.

¤ Furthermore, we would like to organize 2 QUIZZES:- a quiz for the juniors

3rd – 6th school year (see age of our children)competition between different classesthe quiz can be integrated in the school lessons

- a quiz for the seniors no age restrictions

We think the quizzes will awaken the public’s interest, especially if they can win an attractive prize. The quizzes fit perfectly in our “gaming society”. And we believe they could be a powerful learning tool.

OUR PARTNER: WWF Belgium

www.wwf.be

We've chosen WWF- Belgium to be our partner in this adventure because their ultimate goal is to build a future where people live in harmony with nature. We are very pleased with this cooperation.

“ WWF is an international organization with projects in more than 100 countries.

The world trip of the Van Hemelrijck family gives us the opportunity to put some of those projects in the spot lights. Those enthusiastic travelers will share their experiences through their diaries and pictures.

As 'WWF-ambassadors‘ they will help many people to discover the beauty of nature. But they will also testify about the many threats to nature and report about what WWF is doing in order to solve them.

We wish the four globetrotters a magnificent journey ! “

Réginald Pauwels, CEO WWF-Belgium
