remainderofthebookofJob(untilchapter42).o Job42:12‐17o ThereasonforJob’strialsmaynotbeobviouswhenwereadthisstory.God’swaysareoftenmysterioustous.
However,wedoknowJob'slifehasbeenanage‐oldexampleoftrustinginGodduringsuffering.Suffering,asJobdid,seemsalwaystobringupthequestion'Why?'WhywouldGodallowbadthingstohappen?Whyistheresufferingintheworld?Andthelistcouldgoon.Thesequestionsarenotbadquestionsandtheyhaveanswers,evenifthoseanswersareveiledtousinthislifetime.However,ifwestoptheconversationbyonlyasking‘Why,’thenwemaymisstheverydesignofsufferinginourlives.IfwefollowChristandbelieveourlivesaresolelyforHisglory,Hiswordtellsustorejoiceinsuffering.Indeed,wearecalledtoboastaboutsuffering(2Corinthians12:9‐10).Whyboastinaffliction?Itseemslikeastrangeresponsetosuffering—rejoicing?However,asfollowersofChrist,itisimportantforustoseethatsufferingandtrialsaremomentsofopportunity—opportunitytotrust,praise,obey,topossiblyeventurnfromsin.Thequestionof‘Why?’can'tbetheonlyquestionweask.Itmustalwaysleadustoasecondquestion.Andthatquestionsis‘How?’
HowcanIbestdisplayChristtotheworldthroughmycircumstances?HowcanIusemytrialstodrawclosertoGod?HowcanGodbemostglorifiedinmydifficulties?
WelearnimportantandpracticaltruthsfromthestoryofJob:God’swaysarenotfullyknowntous.Godisalwaysgood.WemusttrustGodingoodtimesandindifficulttimes.God’sstrengthisrevealedwhenweareourweakest.TheBottomLine:Godissovereignoversuffering,evenifweareveiledtoitspurposesinourlives.Godisforusandnotagainstus.Questions:HowwasGodglorifiedthroughJob’sunwaveringcommitmenttoHim?DoyouthinkyouwouldrespondtosufferingasJobdid?HowisGod’sstrengthshownmoreclearlywhenweareatourweakest?

Remember, these suggestions are intended to help parents facilitate God‐centered discussions with theirchildren. Parents should prayerfully use these suggestions, and any other means necessary, to help their childrendiscoverthetruthsofGod’sWordandworshipHimtogether.Preschool(Birth‐Kindergarten)o Showyourchildaboxofband‐aids.Youmayevenallowthemtoopenthemandputband‐aidsalloverhis/herarms

Children(Grades1‐5)o Whatissuffering?Sufferingmeanstohavepain,discomfortorsorrow.Itmeanstoexperiencesomething
unpleasant.o Refertosomethingthatyourchild(ren)learnedthatwasdifficultandmayhavecausedpainsuchaslearningtoridea
bikewithouttrainingwheels,learningtorollerblade,ridearipstick,iceskate,etc.o Askyourchild(ren)whyyouallowedthemtogothroughpain.Explainthatyouallowedthemtogothroughpain
becauseyouwantedthemtolearnsomethingorhowtodosomethingyouknewwouldbegoodforthem.o ItisbecauseGodlovesusthatHeletsusgothroughhardtimes,haveproblems,andevensuffer.Havingproblems
andsufferinghelpourfaithgrowstrong.GoingthroughtroubleshelpsuslearntotrustinGod’spromises.WeshouldthankGodforgivingusproblemsandsufferingbecauseHeisteachingussomethingwhenwedealwiththoseproblems/troubles.
