Essential Questions• Herodotus’ contributions were very important to later

historians. He wrote The Histories with the hope “that what people did will be remembered later, so that the great and admirable monuments that the Greeks and the barbarians made would be famous, and, among other things, to write down the reasons why they had a war."

• Herodotus most reminds me of my Grampy because they both are interested in the past, and Herodotus passed down his information in The Histories while my Grampy tells me what he knows.

• Our society and life would be different without Herodotus because we probably wouldn’t have as much information about ancient Greece.

Extra Information• The most important thing that happened in Herodotus’

childhood was when he Greeks fought against the most powerful empire in the world, Persia, and won. This caused Herodotus to devote his life to trying to explain why this miracle happened.

• Herodotus believed the Greeks could learn a lot from people from other places around them. So he wrote about other cultures that he learned about in places he visited, like Egypt and Scythia. But he also wrote about places he never visited like India and Africa.

animals

• Without Aesop’s fables children would not learn important morals in early life

• Figurative language would be without many important metaphors and similes

• Mrs. Lockwood is most similar to Aesop– Reason #1: They both are superb at making

connections; Aesop between people and animals, Mrs. Lockwood with book characters

Essential Questions The contributions of Pythagoras is he

discovered irrational numbers.

Pythagoras reminds me of Albert Einstein because he was really into mathematics and Pythagoras formed a group devoted to the study of mathematics.

If Pythagoras didn’t exist we probably wouldn’t know what irrational numbers are and what the Pythagorean Theorem is.

Thucydides wrote “The History of The Peloponnesian War”. This is both his key piece of work and what he was known for.

Peloponnesus is a peninsula where Sparta is located.

The Peloponnesian War started because Corinth and one of its colonies broke out in fighting. Sparta and Athens took opposing sides.

Sparta won the war against Athens.

Athens might have won if Thucydides did not lose Amphipolis.

Page 16: Famous Greeks Top Projectsadamamster.weebly.com/uploads/4/1/2/8/4128860/top_projects_fam… · Most famous for being astronomer (watch stars) but also a Most famous for being astronomer

Thucydides was born around 460-400 B.C.E.

Thucydides was an Athenian general in 424 B.C.E.

He was in control of 7 ships and an important place in Athens called Amphipolis. He lost Amphipolis to the Spartans.

Athens exiled Thucydides for 20 years because of his failure to protect Amphipolis. They also found him in the presence of Spartans.

It was believed Thucydides was a royal Thracian. This was because his fathers name, Oloros is related to the Thracians.

Thucydides was an Athenian aristocrat.

Page 17: Famous Greeks Top Projectsadamamster.weebly.com/uploads/4/1/2/8/4128860/top_projects_fam… · Most famous for being astronomer (watch stars) but also a Most famous for being astronomer

There were many contributions to the world given from Thucydides. One was his book “The History of The Peloponnesian War”. This allowed us to understand better what happened between Sparta and Athens. It also told us how Athens was defeated.

Mr. Amster shares similar qualities with this person. This is because they are both skillful historians.

If Thucydides was not alive it could have either a positive or negative effect on the world. This is because if he was not in command of Amphipolis, Athens might win. This would change history forever.

Euripides contributed to development of drama.

Mr. Enslow shares similar skills to Euripides, he is a play director.

Society would be so different with out Euripides because all the T.V. shows or plays or movies would all be different and we would be behind in the development of drama.
