the Sun.

Maria Skłodowska-

Curie- thr first

woman on Sorbona

University. She

discovered

radioactive

elements: Polon and

Rad. She got two

Nobel Prizes.

Pope Jan Paweł II- our

biggest religious hero.

He was claimed by the

Catholic Church to be

saint. A great person

and patron for Poles!

Rotmistrz Witold Pilecki- the

hero from the second world

war. He agreed as a

volunteer to go to Auschwitz

Birkenau camp

( concentration camp made

by Nasists) to help the

prioners to survive and raise

their spirits. He was killed by

Polish authorities ( under

influence of Russian

government). Now he is

announced to be a national

hero.

Slovakia Juraj Jánošík was a

famous Slovak

highwayman. Jánošík has been the main character

of many Slovak and

Polish legends, novels,

poems and films.

According to the legend, he robbed nobles and

gave the loot to the

poor, a deed often

attributed to the famous

Robin Hood.

Daniela Hantuchová, the most

successful Slovak tennis player of

all time. Hantuchová reached her highest ranking, fifth, in January

2003, after reaching the

quarterfinals of the Australian

Open. She has gone on to win a

further five WTA tournaments,

including the Indian Wells Masters

for a second time in 2007 and

most recently the 2013 AegonClassic

Dom Vasco da Gama, 1st Count of

Vidigueira, (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈvaʃku ðɐ ˈɣɐmɐ]) (c. 1460s – 23

December 1524) was a Portuguese

explorer. He was the first European to

reach India by sea, linking Europe and

Asia for the first time by ocean route, as

well as the Atlantic and the Indian

oceans entirely and definitively, and in

this way, the West and the Orient.

Amália Rebordão Rodrigues GCSE, GCIH (Fundão, July 23, 1920 – Lisbon October 6, 1999), known as Amália Rodrigues(Portuguese pronunciation: [ɐˈmaliɐʁuˈðɾiɣɨʃ]), was a Portuguese singer and actress. Known as the Rainha do Fado("Queen of Fado"), Rodrigues helpedpopularize fado worldwide and traveledinternationally between the 1950s and 1970s. She also became one of the most importantfigures in the genre's development, becoming the pre-eminent female fadistaduring a 50-year recording and stagecareer. Amália was the main inspiration for other well-known international fado and popular music artists such as Madredeus, Dulce Pontes, and Mariza.

Norway

Roald Engelbregt Gravning Amundsen (Norwegian: [ˈɾuːɑl ˈɑmʉnsən]; 16 July 1872 –

c. 18 June 1928) was a Norwegian explorer of polar regions. He led the Antarctic expedition

(1910–12) to become the first men to reach

the South Pole in December 1911. In 1926, he

was the first expedition leader to be

recognized without dispute as having

reached the North Pole

Norway

DumDum Boys started up in the late 1970s as a punk band under the

name Wannskrækk and released a few singles under that name

before they reinvented themselves with a new name and a

somewhat new sound in 1985. Inspired by Lasse Myrvold and The

Aller Værste!, they produced their own music with Norvegian lyrics.

The new name, "DumDum Boys", was taken from a song on the

album The Idiot by Iggy Pop. Their debut album is called Blodig alvor

(na na na na na).

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (pronounced [mustäˈfä ceˈmäl

1938) was a Turkish army officer,

reformist statesman, and the first

President of Turkey. He is credited

with being the founder of the

Republic of Turkey. His surname,

Atatürk (meaning "Father of the

Turks"), was granted to him in 1934

and forbidden to any other person

by the Turkish parliament.
