Mohammed Yunus

Founder of Grameen Bank and Nobel laureate

Muhammad Yunus is a Nobel Prize-winning economist who pioneered microfinancing in Bangladesh.

He founded the Grameen Bank, with which he shared the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize “for their efforts to create economic and socialdevelopment”.

Prafulla Chandra Ray

Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray an Bangladeshi chemist, educator and entrepreneur.

The Royal Society of Chemistry honoured his life and work with the first ever Chemical Landmark Plaque outside Europe.

He was the founder of Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, India's first pharmaceutical company.

Maqsudul Alam is a Bangladeshi American Scientist and Professor.

Dr. Maqsudul Alam achieved Four milestones in genomics - sequencing the genomes of Papaya, Rubber, Jute and Fungus.

Maksudul Alam is a professor of the University of Hawaii, earlier decoded the genome of papaya in the USA and rubber plant in Malaysia.

Fazlur Rahman Khan

Fazlur Rahman Khan was a Bangladeshi structural engineer and architect, who initiated structural systems that form the basis of tall building construction today.

Considered the Father of tubular designs for high-rises, Khan was also a pioneer in computer-aided design (CAD).

He is the designer of Willis Tower – the 2nd tallest building in the United States (and tallest in the world for many years) and John Hancock Center, a 100-story tall building, etc.

Anwar choudhury

Anwar Choudhury is the Director of International Institutions at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. He was a High Commissioner to Bangladesh, and was the first British Head of Mission to be of Bangladeshi origin. Although born in Sylhet Division, in north-eastern Bangladesh, he is a naturalised British citizen.

Jawed Karim is an American internet entrepreneur of Bangladeshi origin.

He is the co-founder of the popular video sharing website YouTube.

Many of the core components of PayPal, including its real-time anti-fraud system, were also designed and implemented by Karim.

YouTube was acquired by Google in 2007 & Karim’s payoff was an estimated 65 million US Dollar.

Amit Chakma

Amit Chakma is the tenth president of the University of Western Ontario.

From 1988 until 1996, he taught chemical engineering at the University of Calgary. In 1996 he moved to the University of Regina as Dean of Engineering. During his time at the University of Regina Dr. Chakma was named to Canada's Top 40 Under 40 list.

He became Vice President Academic and Provost at the University of Waterloo in 2001.

Jamal Nazrul Islam was a Bangladeshi mathematical physicist and cosmologist. Professor Islam worked in the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy, Cambridge from 1967 until 1971. Later he worked as a researcher in California Institute of Technology and University of Washington.

His research areas include Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, Mathematical Physics, theory of Gravitation, General Relativity, Mathematical Cosmology and Quantum Field Theory.

Mohammad Ataul Karim is a Bangladeshi American scientist and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with expertise in electro-optical systems, optical computing, and pattern recognition.

His citation record has an h-index value of 27, g-index value of 50, and i10-index value of 84 with over 3500 publications citing his research results.

Karim is ranked amongst the top 50 researchers who contributed most to Applied Optics in its 50-year history. He was for 9 years the first Vice President for Research of Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, Virginia.

Musa Ibrahim is a Bangladeshi mountaineer and a journalist. He was the first Bangladeshi to reach the top of Mount Everest. He reached the summit around 5:05am BST on May 23, 2010. He put up the flag of Bangladesh on the summit at around 5:16am BST. From then, Bangladesh became the 67th country to have one of its citizens reach the top of Mount Everest.
