8:00 am ­ Farm Progress Show in Boone, IA The Farm Progress Show, the nation's largest outdoor farm event, annually hosts nearly

600 exhibitors displaying new farm equipment, tractors, combines & farm implements; seed

& crop protection products; & many additional farm supplies &services. A feature of the 2016

show will be a first­hand look at one of the hottest topics in farming: cover crops. Some 18

combinations will be planted at the site, and pits will be dug to check the rooting of these various combinations

9:00 am ­ Couser Cattle Company in Nevada, IACouser Cattle Co., was a 2010 regional Environmental Stewardship Award winner from the National Cattlemen's Beef

Association. Couser Cattle Co. is a second and third generation operation that annually feeds and finishes 5,000 to 6,000

head of cattle and farms 5,000 acres, producing both corn seed and soybean seed. Conservation practices include

vegetative treatment areas (VTAs) and infiltration systems to treat feedlot runoff, and a mono­slope style feeding building

that directs rainfall away from a new pen and allows more feeding capacity without compromising the VTA system.
