Something Old, Something New!

No, we’re not talking about a wedding at Farmington Elementary. We’re talking about our

bluebird trail! The old boxes were about 15 years old and suffering from various stages of dry

rot, so new boxes were installed on November 5 by Ray Pinter from Bluebird Restoration Asso-

ciation of Wisconsin (BRAW) and retired teacher Lora Schreiber.

Five of the new boxes were either donated or bought by Mrs. Schreiber before she retired a few

years ago. Ray built the rest of the boxes and supplied the specially made poles. The poles are

narrow, double-sanded, and then coated with specialty wax to make them very difficult for pred-

ators to climb. Our trail now has nine boxes, less than before, to entice more bluebirds to nest.

The summer of 2015 brought four fledged bluebirds, eight chickadees, and twenty-eight wrens.

By using fewer boxes and increasing the distance between the boxes, we hope to encourage

bluebirds and discourage wrens.

One other note: We now have seven slightly used predator guards available to anyone who

would like to donate a small amount for their purchase. Please speak to Mr. Fischer, if you are

interested.

The Giving Tree Hello all FES parents! It is that time of

year again to open our hearts to help those families in our community who are in need.

We are asking for the donation of new toys

for children ages birth to 18.

We will be collecting the toys at FES from Monday, November 30th

through Friday, December 11th.

There will be an area near the office set up for you to drop off the unwrapped gifts.

The presents will be donated to FES families and Washington

County youth through The Gingerbread House.

If you have any questions, or are a family in need that would like some help this holiday season, please call Jody Mundigler-Hemauer at 626-8427, ext. 3203 or

e-mail at [email protected].

Thanks for your support and kindness in brightening up the holidays for area families.

Winter Clothes

It’s that time of year! Children need to start dressing for the weather. Gloves,

boots and hats are important. Once we have snow, we require all children, in

all grades, to wear boots. Students in all grades will also need to wear snow

pants in order to leave the blacktop to play in the snow. If students do not

have the appropriate clothing with them, they will need to stay along the wall

during that recess so they stay dry. Spending the afternoon in wet socks or

pants is uncomfortable and unhealthy. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please

call the FES office. Please help your child by getting clothes that are easy to get on and off. You might also

want to put an extra pair of mittens and socks in their backpacks. Children who come to school will be ex-

pected to go outside unless a medical condition exists. If this is the case, please bring a medical excuse or

talk with the classroom teacher about your child’s condition. Indoor recess will be called if the temperature

falls below 10 degrees or 0 degrees with the wind chill.

“Kindness Around Kewaskum” The 4th and 5th graders have been very busy giving their time and tal-ents during art classes to create handmade clay pins and magnets to be sold to raise money for the Kewaskum Community Food Pantry. The cost for each pin or magnet is $5.00. All of the sales from the pins and magnets will go towards food for the food pantry. Pins and magnets will be on sale before and after the Christmas Concerts. The concerts are December 22nd at 2:30 and 6:00. They will also be sold at Piggly Wiggly in Kewaskum after Thanksgiving. We hope the community will open their hearts and give generously to help those in need this holiday season!
