FASHION FOLIO

The objective of this highly intensive fashion programme is for students to produce a portfolio of work which can be used to apply for an undergraduate, postgraduate fashion programme, or for employment or personal development. You will be given advice about future studies and follow projects in order to create a portfolio that represents your own personal approach to fashion design.

This programme will push your understanding of fashion and challenge your preconceived ideas of how to design garments. Visual research, experimentation and idea development combined with unique presentation skills are at the focus of everything you do.

Course structure

Fashion Folio is a full time course where students have directed study and work independently. You will also have access to a dedicated work space, open on weekdays, for self-practice and portfolio creation. Each stage is taught on a progressive basis, providing the opportunity to study for up to one academic year. You are recommended to take all three stages, but other entry points are available providing your work, ability and experience is at the appropriate level for entry.

Entry level

Stage 2 is the most intensive part of the course. This stage focuses on research skills and the design development process.

There is a greater level of self-directed study and students are expected to take greater responsibility for their own learning. GRAPHICS FOLIO

Over two stages the Graphics Folio Course provides students with a solid foundation in graphic design or to develop established skills. It is expected that the majority of students will use the course to apply to a BA or MA course by building an original and effective graphic design portfolio.

This is not a computer software course but rather reflects the studio based and idea generation nature of graphic design.

Course structure

The course assists you in realising your goals through common creative exercises, lectures, workshops, demonstrations, visits and individual tuition. It will make full use of the cultural aspects of London and there may also be the opportunity to get involved in live briefs from the industry, offering you a further taste of the BA and MA courses at Central Saint Martins. Each stage is taught on a progressive basis; you are recommended to take both stages, but other entry points are available providing your work, ability and experience is at the appropriate level for entry.

Entry level

Stage 1 of the course focuses on creating new material for your portfolio, experimenting with new techniques, examining theories of communication and visual language in more detail.

Stage 2 during this term students will be working on a series of project briefs and preparing / curating portfolios for their chosen pathways (BA, MA or Professional development).

Subjects covered include:

PHOTOGRAPHY FOLIO

The Photography Professional Practice and Portfolio Course will enhance your knowledge of photography through the understanding of professional processes and skills, and the building of an original and personally tailored photography portfolio. It aims to encourage you to develop upon your own creative approach and style, whatever that may be.

The course will be beneficial to students looking to develop a portfolio for BA undergraduate applications, for those who want to return to education and use the course to a make an application for an MA and for professional practice.

Course structure

Photography Professional Practice and Portfolio Course is a full-time course that runs for two sessions each academic year.

One session (September – March) runs as a 20-week course split over two terms with a break for the Christmas holidays in between providing one day’s tuition per week, on Saturdays.

The other session runs from April to July for the same amount of time, running for 20 classes every Thursday evening and Saturday daytime, and then finishes with an intensive one week to conclude the course.

The first part of the course is taught progressively, with practical and technical skills being covered. These skills will then be applied to the projects that will form the bulk of your portfolio in the second part of the programme, so that you are then in a strong position to apply for the BA and MA courses.

During the second part of the course you will be asked to develop an idea for a self-initiated project that you would like to develop and undertake. Your individual research project will be the main focus of your studies for the second stage of the course. You will be supported throughout by workshops, lectures, tutorials and group feedback sessions.

Subjects covered include:
