THIS OVER-ARCHING IDEA SEEMS TO STIFLE THE DETAILS BY GLOSSING THEM OVER. NOT TRUE. BRINGING THESE DETAILS TOGETHER, WEAVING THE MOVEMENT FROM DARK TO LIGHT, GIVES THEM BOTH CONTEXT AND PURPOSE. IT’S THE DETAILS THAT MATTER, ON THE GRADIENT.C O N O RF O R D

From the runway to the streets, fashion makes a debut on the internet through blogging. Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist, a popular street photographer, shaped this hobby by merging blogging and street fashion. Currently, new u p c o m i n g bloggers such as HB Nam of Streetfsn and Tommy Ton of JakandJil have expanded this field and are now large contributors to prominent magazines such as V o g u e . HB Nam of S t r e e t f s n . b l o g s p o t . c o m is an ambitious fashion photographer. From Seoul, Korea, Nam was a student in computer software and only b e g a n photography as a hobby. In this interview we asked Nam how he transformed his pastime into a profession.

FQ: How did you become involved with street fashion photography?

Nam: I just wanted to describe people on the street by myself, my photography style, my point of view. I was a student in computer software, but it was quite boring sitting in a desk and watching the computer monitor all day so I quit. I desired something fun, like photography.

FQ: Was there ever a time where you knew that this was what you wanted to do?

Nam: I never got stress, so I realized I should be a photographer, especially a street photographer. It’s so cool traveling to many countries, as many as I wanted, and photograph people I am interested in.

FQ: Is there any advice that you would give to college students who want to go into photography or fashion?

Nam: I’m not sure I’m at a posi-tion where I could give advice to college students. I’ve been doing photography only 16 months so far.But there is one thing I can say, you have to have your own ‘color’, which can make you special, distinguish, attractive. The important thing is how much people love your work rather than how many people.
