2. What influenced your style as a teenager?
3. 1920s: Flapper Decade
In the 1920s fashion dramatically changed and was the start of
people expressing themselves through clothing. World War 2 had just
ended and people were sick of uniforms and structured suits for
work and war. This caused everyone one to come out of their shell
and try new options. During the 1920s the music also really
influenced the fashion choices. Jazz music had become extremely
popular, along with dance clubs. Clothes during this era allowed
people to dance and do whatever they pleased. This meant, hems were
shorter and flowy, like the flapper dress and loose fitting suits.
Comfortable clothing was also very popular during this time. Guys
took on the comfortable clothing also, like cuffed trousers, which
are like shorts and flannel. The richer men still wore knickers and
suits to fancier events but were less fancy then ever before.
4. 1940s
The 1940s was a very professional time period. More and more people
were getting out of ordinary jobs of working for the government or
war efforts and starting their own business. With this came along a
new since of style for people. The men started wearing the fedora
and the Eisenhower jacket which is a cropped leather jacket. During
this time men started to wear the Zoot Suit which is a pant and
jacket set. The jacket would be padded with extra long tails, while
the pants were high waisted and tighter fitting. The suit was
usually bright colored with funky patterns. The The women were
still making their own clothes during this time so easily made
skirts and dresses were very popular.Which is why the circle skirt
was very popular. It was a full skirt that fell to the knees and
eventually led to the poodle skirt.
5. Mod Era: 1960s
The 1960s were a time for hippies and strong social movements to
have more freedom. Men stepped out of their comfort zone of suits
and stepped out in bell bottom pants with low waist hems paired
with a high collared shirt.Buffalo Plaid was also very popular
during this era. For the women it was time to bring out the short
dresses and go-go boots. Paisley and Tie-Dye also made their
appearance during this era.
6. 1980s
This period of time was a fun time for everyone. Music was always
fun and lively. . The fashion during this time was really based off
of the music and the creation of MTV.The vibes were great and
bright so, so were the clothes. The clothes resembled bright, and
physchedelic patterns. Big hair, bell bottoms for both men and
women. Everything was over the top. No dull moments of just sweats
were popular during this time period for anyone. A big designer
during this time was Chanel for being one of the first designers to
embrace the craziness ad roll with it producing clothes that are
still admired today.
7. The 21st Century
21st Century style is very scattered and different. There are just
so many more fashion designers these days that are all taking
different routes with there lines that everyone nowadays has there
own choice and doesnt stick with one trend. The trends though are
starting to cycle through. The 50s is coming back in with the
longer skirts and dresses and also you will see a lot of teenage
girls sporting 50s style bathing suits. The main style coming back
is the 80s like converse, leg warmers and even the bell bottoms,
much to many peoples dismay. This is only because so many teenagers
are more inspired by the past nowadays when speaking of style. In
terms of guys, some are sporting past styles like skinny jeans and
muscle tees but many are sticking to shorts and T-Shirts or sports
wear, like jerseys or baseball caps.
