The primary function of the TRAKKER Antares data collection terminal is to

record bar coded information. We use it to collect information for warehousing

and customer bin stocking operations. The full function keyboard allows you to

manually enter information that cannot be scanned into the device.

After you have collected information with the TRAKKER, you upload it to your

FASPAC system for subsequent validation and processing by the FASPAC

FasTrak programs.

FASPAC supports two models of the TRAKKER Antares terminals.

Set Up the Communications Dock

The communications dock transfers data to FASPAC using RS-232 serial

communications. It converts TRAKKER signals to serial signals that are then

transmitted to FASPAC. It also receives application programs from FASPAC by

converting the serial signals to TRAKKER signals.

There are three status lights on dock:

• Receive Status Light—Flashes green when data is being received from

the host.

• Transmit Status Light—Flashes green when data is being transmitted

from the TRAKKER to the host.

• Power Status Light—Indicates when power is supplied from the external

power supply. It is amber when no TRAKKER is in the dock, and turns

green when a TRAKKER is inserted in the dock.

The dock also charges the main battery pack and backup battery that are inside

the TRAKKER.

Bar Code Labels

The efficiencies and accuracy gained by using scanning technology in a

distribution facility is based on the use of bar coded information. The TRAKKER

terminal is capable of scanning a bar code and transmitting that information to

the FASPAC system.

Therefore, bar coded information should be in place to identify each unique

inventory storage location within a distribution facility. Each container of

inventory product should be identified with a bar coded tag. (The FASPAC

tagging system has been developed to fulfill this requirement.) If the TRAKKER

is to be used in support of a bin-stocking program, bar coded bin labels should be

in place at the customer site.

FASPAC uses the following label types in normal TRAKKER-based

warehousing, manufacturing, and customer bin stocking operations:

• Customer Contract Label, for remote (off-site) locations

• Customer Bin Label, for remote (off-site) locations

• Location Label, for local (on-site) locations

• Container Tag Label, for local (on-site) locations

These label types are discussed in the following sections.

For detailed instructions for creating labels, refer to the Faspac Bar Code

Implementation Guide.

3Operation

This chapter explains how to use the FASPAC application

programs on the TRAKKER, and how to transmit information

to FASPAC on the host server.

Information collected in a TRAKKER terminal must be uploaded to FASPAC.

A TRAKKER Communications Dock or TRAKKER Optical Link Adapter is

required to support these communications.

Here is a typical sequence of events that would take place using a TRAKKER

terminal:

1. Go to the location where information is to be gathered. This may be:

• A customer’s site where the FasTrak CSO application is used to

collect information for bin restocking (typically at remote sites).

• A distribution facility where the FasTrak CSATL application is

used to record the locations of product that is being put away

(local site).

• A distribution facility where the FasTrak CSPHY application is

used to record the items and respective quantities in conjunction

with taking a physical inventory (local site).

2. Select the appropriate FasTrak application program: Convert Scan

Orders (cso), Scan Putaway (csatl), or Scan Physical Inventory (csphy).

3. Collect the required data using the TRAKKER bar code scanner and

keyboard.

Records are accumulated in one text file per program. That is, one file

for cso, one for csatl, and one for csphy.

FPD/318-03 3-1

Page 54: FasTrak User's Guide - Epicor · PDF fileManual—Includes detailed information about the TRAKKER Antares 2420/2425 data collection terminals. ... • At least one Faspac FasTrak User’s

4. Make sure that the Upload From Trakker To Host (TRAK/TKRS)

program is running on the FASPAC server.

5. Place the TRAKKER in the communications dock and select the

Transmit menu option.

Only one text file is transmitted at a time from each program.

6. After the data has been transferred to FASPAC, clear it from the

TRAKKER and start collecting new data.

Note: If you do not clear the text file after you transmit to FASPAC,

subsequent records will be added to the file. When you transmit the file

later, FASPAC will end up with duplicate records.

7. Process the files in FASPAC using the Process Trakker Files

(TRAK/TKKR) program.

The operation procedures are divided into sections for remote (off-site) operation

and local (on-site) operation situations.

The following miscellaneous procedures are discussed at the end of the chapter:

• Checking the battery power

• Changing the main battery

• Setting the date and time

• Adjusting the beep volume

• Adjusting the screen display contrast

• Checking the disk space on the TRAKKER’s hard drive

Scan Physical Inventory Menu (csphy.bin)

The Scan Physical Inventory Menu has options to add new data, browse through

data that has already been collected, and transmit the data to FASPAC.

From the Main Menu, press 3. The TRAKKER initializes and displays the

following menu.

These menu options are described below.

1 Add

Using the TRAKKER for loading inventory counts simply replaces the use of the

FASPAC Count Entry By Item (PAY/CEI) and Count Entry By Location

(PAY/CEL) programs. All of the steps for normal physical count processes

remain the same and must still be performed.

The TRAKKER does not do any of the counting; it simply records item numbers,

locations, and quantities. See the FASPAC Volume 2 Inventory Reference

Manuals for more information about the physical inventory process.

Note: If you are entering information instead of scanning it, press ; after you

type the data in each field.

1. From the Scan Physical Inventory menu, press 1. The following screen is

displayed.

2. In the WAREHOUSE # field, scan or enter the warehouse number.

Which Warehouse is Used

Orders are created for warehouses according to the following specifications:

• If there is no contract for the customer, the CSO program uses the primary

warehouse specified for the customer in the Customer Processing

Maintenance (CP/MAI) program.

• If there is a contract for the customer:

– If you entered ALL contracts in the TRAKKER, the CSO program

searches the Contract file for that customer. When it finds the first

item, it uses the warehouse specified for that item in the contract for

the entire order.

Note: The correct pricing for all other items will be taken from

their respective contracts.

– If you entered a specific contract number in the TRAKKER and a

warehouse is specified in that Contract file, the CSO program uses

that warehouse.

– If you entered a specific contract number in the TRAKKER and

ALL warehouses are specified in that Contract file, the CSO

program creates the order for the primary warehouse specified in

the Customer Master record.

– If you entered ALL contracts in the TRAKKER and all contracts for

the customer specify ALL warehouses, the CSO program creates

the order for the primary warehouse specified in the Customer

Master record.

Where does the Pick List Print

Pick lists are not automatically printed during the CSO process; you must print

them using Pick List Print (OP/OPL/PLP).

After the orders are created in the appropriate warehouses, the pick lists are

printed on the pick list printer specified in Warehouse Address Maintenance

(PO/POM/WAM) If a pick list printer is not specified in PO/POM/WAM, pick

lists are printed on the default printer for the warehouse.
