FAULT’s theme for Fall 2012 is Fantasy: Dreams and Nightmares. Kelly Osbourne’s exclusive cover feature is the perfect encapsulation of that concept. Fantasy is that aspect of the imagination that is both desirable and intimidating. Sometimes it is an overwhelmingly positive hope—a beautiful thought or idea—but on other occasions it can take a darker form. From joyous longing to agonising terror, fantasies run the gamut between dreams and nightmares and, as such, are loved by some and reviled by others.

It is not exactly a stretch of the imagination to apply the latter part of that description to Kelly herself. Kelly would be the first to admit that she has her detractors, but she is also fully aware of the huge (and growing) number of fans whose admiration for her has come as a result of her own achievements—successes that most people could not even dream of attaining.

Our exclusive fashion editorial with Kelly embodies her as someone who stands on the cliff face between the darker and lighter aspects of fantasy, and her interview is a reflection of the dual nature within the entertainment world she inhabits. We are delighted to feature Kelly on the cover of our Fall 2012 issue—delighted both with her stunning turn in a breathtaking shoot with photographer Vijat Mohindra and with her candid revelations about her personal and professional life—and we hope our readers also enjoy what has to be one of our favourite features in recent times.

Issue 12’s film supplement cover features a talent who has been around for a long time but has only recently been catapulted into the limelight. Logan Lerman is, astonishingly, only 20 years old at the time of publication, yet he has a filmography as long as some actors twice his age. A quick glance at this list reveals that these are no hack projects, either. Logan counts among his credits international blockbusters such as What Women Want, The Butterfly Effect, 3:10 to Yuma, The Three Musketeers and, of course, the title role in the Percy Jackson film series. Even all of that, one could argue, pales in significance when compared to his current role: Logan plays the lead alongside Emma Watson and Ezra Miller in Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

It is fair to describe Logan as a director’s dream. Coldly professional when it comes to his work and its promotion, Logan sparks into action near a camera, whether it be filming for Chbosky’s teen drama or on the set of FAULT’s exclusive fashion editorial in New York. Our shots try to

capture the dual nature of Logan’s personality in the context of his career, while our New York editor Rachel Eleanor Sutton had the pleasure of speaking to him about his work, his dreams and—of course—his FAULTs.

The FAULT film section also includes an exclusive photo shoot with Candice Accola, who stars as Caroline in the globally renowned TV series The Vampire Diaries. She is depicted in our editorial in dreamy, old-Hollywood elegance. This section also includes teen drama and film actor Taylor Handley, Game of Thrones’ seductress Oona Chaplin and fellow British screen stars Miranda Raison and Adam Rayner.

Our music section is always a source of particular pride to us at FAULT, and this issue is no different. Perhaps the most interesting choice we have made for a supplemental (and reversible) cover for some time is South Korean band 2NE1. While musicians that do not count English as their mother tongue are often pigeon-holed by the music industry as belonging to the generic genre of “world music”, the all-female four-piece have demonstrated the growing understanding amongst music fans worldwide that quality of overall sound and style far supersedes the apparent necessity for instant verbal understanding. The simple fact is that music, like any good art form, is universal. Deeper meanings can be found in any great music, regardless of the language in which the lyrics are primarily written. Art transcends language, and the ladies of 2NE1 are poetic in every aspect of their chosen medium.

It is undeniable that, along with raw talent, personal style is also a critical aspect of the modern music industry. Imagine a clean-cut Dylan, a scruffy Sinatra or an overweight Kurt Cobain. FAULT’s shoot with 2NE1, which took place at the peerless Lightbox Studio in Los Angeles, highlights the girls’ sense of style above and beyond their typical image. Giuliano Bekor and Avo Yermagyan helped take our shoot with the K-Pop sensations to the limits of fantasy—all the while under the eyes of the girls’ major collaborator Jeremy Scott. Jeremy, if you’re reading, we hope you were taking notes!

Going from East to West and back again, 2NE1 are accompanied by a Brooklyn-based band gaining widespread acclaim across the globe. Grizzly Bear are post-pop perfection and the epitome of a band at their peak—and living proof that guitar-led music is not dead. We had the pleasure of shooting the guys in our back yard (not literally) in London, and we repeated the trick for up-and-coming Brooklyn boys Oberhofer a short time later.

The rest of FAULT’s music supplement is served by genuinely home grown British talent. The Noisettes—back with a third album after a three-year recording hiatus—rub pages with electro artist Little Boots (who discusses her eagerly anticipated second album, due our later this year) and cheeky newcomers Chew Lips. All are featured in FAULT-exclusive fashion editorials.

Finally, the men’s supplement: a section that needs no introduction—but it will get one anyway, because we’re feeling particularly generous on verbage at this stage. In our one-of-a-kind editorial, Topher Grace appears to be frustrated and in the midst of every author’s nightmare: writer’s block. Inevitably remembered for his starring role in the long-running series That ’70s Show, Grace is now showing us all that he has more in his bag of tricks than playing a socially awkward teenager (like Eric Foreman, his character in the aforementioned series). Recently cast as the prime villain in Spider-Man 3, Grace has now reached the summit of cinema with his turn in the upcoming comedy The Big Wedding, which features a cast filled with Hollywood royalty. Grace’s feature sits alongside that of the hilarious Daniel Gillies and a smouldering shoot with Bradley Soileau, star of Lana del Rey’s “Born to Die” music video. Also featured is Jonny Weston, who plays the leading role in Chasing Mavericks alongside Gerard Butler.

FAULT Issue 12 is the continuation of a long-standing commitment to bringing our readers a different perspective on the most highly sought-after creative personalities in the world today.
