GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS 1

God has "blessed: us and has answered our prayers this weekfor securing another apartment, and for expanding our work inGermany,

With the critical housing shortage in West Germany, Maryand I spent several "busy months in desperately trying to meetthe dead-line of May first, when our present lease expired. Uursearch took us to five real-estate agents inside of Jranklurt^and even to out-lying cities as far as Karlsr^e. _With all ofour efforts and time almost exhausted, the situation looiceahopeless.

But with God, all things are possible, and He has rewardedour efforts and answered our prayers! For in the new location,we will have an opportunity, not only to retain the work whichwe began in Frankfurt a year ago; but we are also able to expand our v;ork to another community!

Our new apartment will be located on the fi^rstwe already have permission to hold a German Adult Bible otudyClass in our living room. . V/e are securing aour old apartment, in which to continue our work with the German children and Young People,

V/e hope that you will forgive us for failing toand mail a .February and March News-Bulletin; but most of ourtime was consumed in trying to re-looate the mission d^ingthe rapidly decreasing amount of time which we had before thMay first dead-line.

Mprv, the children, and I continue to give thanlcs to ourHeavenly Father, for the fellowship we are able to h|ve withvou, and for the important part you have in helping us to restore His Church in Germany, May God's blessings rest upon youin your efforts to serve Him!

OUR NEEDS INCREASIi):

As the Mission grows our financial needs grow proportionately. This is a healthy sign for the work here. In additionto our projects mentioned above, we are ^ii^^ographing a paper, and printing tracts, in an effort to cover GermanyTestament Message. Still another project beinga German Rixdio Broadcast, which, we hope to begin o^st as soonas fimds are available for it. More will be said about this,as opportunities for it.arise. Right now, our needs are a taperecorder, folding chairs. Vacation Bible School Supplies, anda portable Baptistry. We trust in God, that these needs willbe supplied.

Our Dear Friends in Ohrist:

We received your letter of April 18th, today; and were sxir-prised to hear that you didn't receive the set of slides as yet.

I had sent a set of slides, together with a commentary, tothe Garrett, Indiana church last January. As soon as the "MissionRound-Up" was over, they were instructed to send them to Coleman, who, in turn, was to have several sets made from them, and send aset of them to you.

Illness may have prevented Colemsin's doing this, as, I xmder-stand he was hospitalized recently for an operation. I shall writehim immediately, however, on this matter; as I assumed that thesets were ready for the churches "by this time.

Please forgive me for any embarrassment this may have causedyou! It was natural for me to assume that 3 months would be enoughtime for them to be in your hands. It took them only 5 days toreach Garrett, Indiana from Frankfurt Germany, via Air-Mail.

We, too, like the missionary-packet idea, and, as soon as weget settled in our new location, we will prepare the material forit. We had been deliberately holding up on this matter, becausewe didn't know how much expense would be involved in moving#

Enclosed is the very latest copy of our News-Bulletin. Wewant you to feel free to publish anything of interest that you findin it, in the HORIZONS. Since we are mailing them out via regularmail at the end of this week, the news items that you would printwill still reach the people ^ead of the letters. (It takes from 5to 4 weeks via regular mail.)

I'm sorry that we didn't have an opportunity to tell youearlier; but Mary and I really appreciated the splendid peice ofwork which you did in publishing the last edition of "die Hoffnung".We especially liked the idea of the seasonal "green" ink, and theChristmas Greetings which you added. We had completely overlooked

this in preparing it for publication. We shall be preparing anothercopy for publication as soon as we get in our new location, and getsettled.

Mary, the children, and I, join in sending you and yours thevery best, and God's Richest Blessings. May God continue to blessyour wonderful work, as you serve His Church and bring glory toHis Name I We are yoiir friends in Christ

Dear Brother Mac:

Just a personal note of thanks for having printed our paper"die Hoffnung", and getting it mailed last month. We know that youare certainly kept busy, especially prior to and during the holidayseason, and appreciate the extra time and effort required to getout our paper. Mary and I also want to thank you for having published "The Needy help the Needier",

We haven;t seen a copy of the last "die Hoffnung" as yet,and wonder if you could send us several copies via Air Mail? Ifit is not too much trouble, we would like to have sent directto Germany, each time that we have an edition printed^ ^

Our greatest need at present, is a building to rent or lease,to accommodate our growing attendance. At least $3,000 to #4,000is needed for Baukostengeld (Down-payment) for a ten year lease onproperty that would house both the Mission and our family. We arenow meeting on the fourth floor of a crowded apartment building, inour living room. With such limited space, and only teo chairs togo around, it is often necessary for the children in Bible Schoolto either sit on the floor or stand against the wall, 'during thelessons. The initial cost for renting or leasing a building isreturnable either in part or in whole, depending upon amount ofmonthly rent paid, at the termination of the lease.

Mary and the children join me in sending you and yours ourvery best wishes for the New Year, May God continue to bless youand the wonderful work of Mission Services I

IN GERMANY - TO GERMANS - IN GERMAN

Over RADIO SAAR BRUCKEN

THE WEST GERMAN CHRISTIAN MISSION

AND THE GOSPEL BROADCASTING MISSION

HAVE JOINED HANDS TO LABOR TOGETHER INTHIS RADIO VENTURE!

The West German Christian Mission and theGospel Broadcasting Mission are cooperatingin making it possible for us to bring the Gospelof Christ to the people of Germany! Contributions have made the purchase of a tape recorderpossible and we are ready to begin productionimmediately.

Since we are only one missionary family, and there are millions of lost souls around us,

we feel that this means of reaching them withthe Gospel is most imperative!

However, we need pledges for this project, and are asking your prayers that this broadcastwill soon become a reality. The funds neededfor broadcasting must be over and above thefunds already pledged to the West GermanChristian Mission and the Gospel Broadcasting

Mission. About $60.00 per week will be neededbefore we can begin. It should not be difficult,if 60 churches would pledge $1.00 per week.Funds for this purpose should be sent iorGER-MAN AIR EVANGELISM, and made payable to:

GOSPEL BROADCASTING MISSIONMr. & Mrs. Walter S. Coble208 South Guilford Street

Gorrett, Indiana

These gifts will be receipted for by theCobles, and used only for the purpose designated.

The broadcast will be followed throughwith personal calls and correspondence by theFausz's in Germany. Radio Saarbruecken islocated in West Germany, and will put theGospel within hearing range of most of theGerman-speaking peoples.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS: This year.Instead of planning only one Vacation BibleSchool, we are filling the entire summer vacation period with two-week sessions of ourVacation Bible School In various public schoolsscattered throughout the city of Frankfurt. Although this Involves a great deal of time andwork, we feel that this program will broadenour opportunities for reaching more children*andyoung people than we could reach by confining our efforts to only one community. Thisalso puts a strain upon our missionary budget, but we believe that God will proportionatelysupply our needs, as we increase our effectiveness for Him.

Funds permitting, we would like to followthrough on the various Vacation Bible Schoolswith a Bible Study Period one day a week, ineach of the schools in which we have V.B.S.and having them fall on different days of theweek. This way, we would not lose contact withthe children and young people whom we havebeen teaching for the two week period. We havealready signed a year's contact with one schoolfor this purpose, and we pray that we will beable to do It In others also.

SLIDES ARE AVAILABLE! Colored slides ofour work in Germany ore nowavailable for showing, to all the churches requesting them. Acommentary has also been prepared to accompanythem. For advance booking, you may writeeither to Mission Services, Box 968, Joliet,Illinois, or to our forwarding agent. BrotherColeman T. Sparrow, 413 York St., MichiganCity, Indiana.

MISSIONARY LESSON: A Missionary LessonOutline Is being Included in this edition of'die Hoffnung," becausewe havenot been able,as yet, to complete a Missionary Packet. Weore working, however, as our time permits, inpreparing a Missionary Packet that will beavailable through Mission Services, , An announcement will be made in Horizons, just assoon as it is completed.

MISSIONARY DISPLAY: Materials for an attrac-Missionary display on West Germany, can behad free of charge, by writing to the

GERMAN TOURIST INFORMATION OFFICE11 South LaSalle Street

Chicago 3, IllinoisPosters, booklets, and souvenirs will be

sent upon request, and even films and slidesore available if sufficient advance notice isgiven. Concerning the plastic doll souvenirpins, it might be well to state the number ofpeople expected to attend, so that there is nounnecessary waste. Be sure to check over literature and slides before using, as they wereintended for commercial purposes rather thanreligious purposes.

WE W/SH TO THANK YOU ALL who are makingour work in Germany possible, with your continued prayers, interest, and offerings. Sometimes we fall behind in our personal correspondence; but we never forget to mention youto our Lord in our dally prayers!

It is indeed a blessing for us to hove theopportunities of sharing our work and burdenswith our Christian friends In America! If we fall

back in our correspondence, it is not becausewe have forgotten you, but because there areonly a limited number of hours in each day, every minute of which is filled with duties andactivities which belong to our Lordl

The fellowship that we have together, inserving our Lord in Germany, is deeply appreciated, in spite of the thousands of miles thatlie between us. Through It, we know that we

We pause, to pay tribute to Gail Bucholtz,a former member of the Palnesvllle, Ohio Churchof Christ, andalsoa former memberofthe UnitedStates Army, serving in Frankfurt, Germany.

While stationed here, Gail became a personalfriend of the Fausz family, up until the timethat he was killed In an outomoblle accidentseverol weeks ago.

The son of Mr. & Wrs. Fred Bucholtz, active members of the Palnesville church. Gallhad visited the Mission several times and tooka keen Interest In the work.

A Memorial Fund, in his honor, was begunIn the Painesville church, and sent to help usIn our work in Germany. The fund was the amountneeded to close the gap for purchasing a much-needed tape recorder for the Mission.

Thus, the Gail Bucholtz Memorial Fundbecomes a perpetual instrumentation for conveying the Gospel of Christ to the people ofGermany, as we use the recorder for broadcasting. 'Heaven and earth shall pass away: butMy words shall not pass away!* —Mark 13:31

Mary, the children and I, join together insending our heartfelt thanks, as we ask God'sblessing upon you, yours, and the work of theLord throughout the world! May God bless youas you continue to labor for Him.

Missionary Lesson OutlineSuggested Scriptuie: John 3:16Suggested Theme: **For God SoLovedthe WorlcT• Opening Hymn: "Love Divine,"• Invocation• Business Meeting• Introduction to the Lesson:

Scripture reading in unison (from memory)Chorus in English: "For God so loved the

World"• Lesson Talk: Proposition; "God made the

World, it was man who built the fences! ButGod's Love can overcome the fences andboundaries of man!"

One of the biggest fences that man has builtis that one composed of barbed wire, machineguns, and tanks, running through the entirelength of Germany from north to south. It iscommonly referred to, as the "Iron Curtain."Spiritual boundaries have also been bui It upin the minds and hearts of the German people. They might be referred to as the "ism curtain*

. as they go by the names of "Communism,' Catholicism, and Denominationalism."

I God's Love can overcome the SpiritualBoundaries because it is Universal.

II God's Love can overcome the PoliticalBoundaries because it is Inter-Racial.

Ill God's Love can overcome any and all Future Boundaries becouse it is Everlasting!

Conclusion: While Germany straddles the"Iron Curtain," it is in a very good positionfor carrying the Gospel of our Lord to the vastGodless populace that lies beyond it! As theiron Curtain serves to limit the free flow ofpeople wanting to travel across it, it cannot

limit nor prevent the Gospel of Christ frombeing preached across it, by way of the radiowaves!

Suggested Sentence Prayers: (By volunteermembers of the group).. .That the German language broadcast might

soon become a reality... .For our children and young people who are

attending the services in Germany....For the German people on both sides of

the iron Curtain that their hearts might bereceptive to the Gospel.

. ..For the people of East Germany, that theymight have the courage to stand for Christunder threat of persecution.

...For health and strength for the Fauszfamily as they continue in the Lord's work.

.. .And for the faithful friends at home, whoare sacrificing their time, tithes and offerings, to make our work in Germany possible!

Closing Chorus in German: "Denn liebte Gottdie Welt." (Use same tune as "For God soLoved the World")

Denn Liebte Gott Die Welt

(For God so Loved the Yforld)

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: vVe were unable to have a v/hole lot of Vacation Bible Schools to take up the entire sunner, as we had earlierplanned; but we believe that a lot of good was done with the ^one wehad. After having been given the approval of the Franifurt SchoolBoard to rent schools in various locations, v/e v/ere told, uponcontacting the various schools thenselves, that the janitors wouldneed tine for their vacations as well as have tine to make the necessary repairs, and painting and cleaning of the roons before schoolstarted again. Consequently, we were forced to have it in only oneschool#

We had a total enrollnent of 50 children, and 40 Gernaias caneto our closing exercise and dononstration. Treats, consisting ofice-crean and cookies were served on the Friday afternoon beforethe dencnstration and progran. A nunber of contacts have been nadethJTOugh this nediun, and a lot of Gospel teaching had been putacross to the Gernan children.

A tape recording- has been nade of the children's singing,v/hicli, v-ie hope,, to have reproduced and available to the churchesrequesting then. These are a few of the songs which we have translated into Gernan for then.

HlJNGAHIAN VISIT: A nissionary offering was received fron the Santa Rosa, California Church, designated for Hungarian Relief- After, checking with the Red Cross in Franlcfurt, Mary and I were able tolocate a very needy Hungarian Refugee fanily, located in a RefugeeCanp near Frankfurt. The fai'.iily consisted of nine children: eightboys and a girl. Their clothing was scant and dingy, and the 2ndoldest boy had no shirt to hie nane. He had to keep his coat on atschool, and also to have his picture t^al^en. The entire fanily v/asforced to live in two very sanll roons. Since the husband spokeGernan, it was not necessary to have sji interpreter, and we wereable to na].ve ourselves understood.

After the first visit with then, and after having"obtained alist of their needs and sizes, Mary and I went dovm-toTO shopping."-We v/ere able to provide the fanily with quite a bit of new clothing, besides havii^g a supply of used clothing and toys fron friendsin Frankfurt, tQ give to then. It was like Christnas to then, whenwe cane back, laden dovm with the gifts. Anong the gifts, was abrand new dress for the nether. She told her husband in Hungarian, who, in turn, told ne in Gernan, that this was the first new dressshe had ever owned in her whole life. When v/e left, there weretears of gratitude in their eyes!

What a blessing thisnews brought to those who heard it, and theyimmediately went seeking the "babe wrappedin swaddling clothes, lying in a manger!"Thus, Jesus made His humble entrance intothis world of sin, which He came to save!Upon His ascension into heaven, we werepromised that "this same Jesus," which wastaken up from the disciples, "shall so come in

More than two thousand years have passedsince our Lord's birth was proclaimed fromheaven, and of His ascension into heaven.

Again, the heavens can declare the "goodtidings," heralding His birth, and preparingthe world for His return, through our broadcasting His Gospel to the people of Germany! Justbefore we began to prepare this article, a tele-

phone call was suddenly received from RadioFrankfurt, requesting our presence and samplebroadcast at the station, early in January, immediately following the holidays! Since wewere negotiating with Radio Saarbrucken, thiscame as a surprise, after the long delay andred tape we were forced to endure since ourapplication was entered with the station here.We would like to begin actual broadcasting onFebruary l6th, the date marking our secondanniversary in Germany.

Whether the "heavens'* remain open orclosed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, dependsmainly upon our friends in America, for thenecessary funds to back up the contract! Weare on the field! We have the "GO" signal! Now we are praying that God will provide thefunds necessary for securing this means ofreaching the people of Germany with Hisprecious Gospel!

We have worked and prayed for two yearsthat "if it be God's will,* this opportunity forreaching the people might come! Securing radiotime here is not an easy matter. There is a lotof "red tape* in arranging for a broadcast, because the stations are owned and operatedby the government, and are not run on a commercial basis, like the stations in America.Much time, prayer, and effort has been putinto securing radio time, and several tripswere made to Saarbrucken, Bielefeld, Baden-Baden, and other broadcasting centers. Nowwe suddenly find ourselves bemg offered radiotime from not one, but two different stations;and, we believe that this is God's answerto us!

Therefore, we ask your prayers as wetrust in God, that His message will go overthe air, and that He will supply this mosturgent need!

All funds for broadcasting are needed overand above the pledges already made to boththe West German Christian Mission and the

Gospel Broadcasting Mission, and should bedesignated: "For German Air-Evangelism,"and made payable, to:

Gospel Broadcasting MissionMr. & Mrs. Walter Coble208 South Guilford St.Garrett, Indiana

TYPE OF PROGRAM

There are many different kinds of radioprograms, and the proposed broadcast inGermany will be known to the Germans as"Suchet in der Schrift Gottes" or (translated)•Search the Scriptures." It will be produced inthe German language, and designed to promoteBible reading; teaching only the fundamentalsof the Gospel. We are asking the loyal BibleColleges in America to provide musical specials to accompany the preaching, and acknowledgement of the College will be made overthe air; This will help us to keep our expensesdown to a minimum, and give our Bible Colleges an Opportunity to actively share in ourMission work. Upon request, a tape of theactual broadcast will be sent to the BibleCollege sillying the music for that particularweek.

FOLLOW UP WORK

Mimeographed copies of the broadcasts, aswell as a correspondence course in German, will be offered to our listeners without cost.

The Broadcast will serve as a means formaking the initial contact, while the callingand correspondence work will be directedtoward actual conversion of interested listeners. In cases where a nucleus of interestedlisteners are gathered, direct personal contactwill be made, in an effort to establish a NewTestament congregation in that community.

"How will our broadcasting effect the workalready begun?" This is a good question, andwe firmly believe that the local work will begreatly helped by our radio broadcast Pub-

Page 14: Fausz-Edward-Mary-1957-Germany.pdf

licity will be gained which we do not havenow, and an opportunity for expanding ourlocal work will result. It is imperative that wekeep our work with the young people and teenagers going, too, in order to teach and trainyoung ministers to step into the congregationswhich we hope to begin with God's help!

PROGRAMS ON TAPE

Would you like to hear our youngsters singthe favorite camp songs and choruses in theGerman language? We have now prepared atape, with our group of young people singingmany of the songs which we have translatedinto German for them. Write to our forwardingagent. Brother Coleman T. Sparrow for detailson this; as well as a tape recording consistingof German Christmas songs and carols byGerman choirs! We call this recording "Christmas in Germany." Other tapes will followshortly.

FINANQAL REPORT

A list of churches and individuals whohave given during the year 1957 is beingprinted in this issue of "die Hoffnung." Wewant to pause for a moment to express ourappreciation for all the gifts and prayers thathave gone into our work! Without them, wecould not function as a Mission, serving ourLord, Jesus Christ in Germany!

We have been very cautious with oxirspending, and we try desperately to make eachcent count the most, in our work of bringingthe Gospel to the people of Germany. Even

though our expenses are increasing as theMission grows, we are trusting our Lord thatthey will be met, and we are being very carefulnot to increase our expenses beyond ourmeans.

We are sorry that space will not permita listing of the amoimts given, but our Forwarding Agent, Brother Sparrow, will be gladto supply a detailed report upon request. Maryand I also want to express our appreciation forthe wonderful work he and Judy are doing inhandling the finances of the Mission. As youknow, this is all being done "gratis," and wecannot thank them enough for devoting theirprecious time in the Mission. It takes teamwork to win a game, and we are happy to haveeach and every one of you take a part in thegreatest privilege in the world — that ofserving our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Wepray His blessings upon each of you! ^
