KUWAIT: Cloudy, gloomy, sad, unwelcoming, sunless, joyless, depressing, these are just few of the descriptions of how themorning sky looks like last Friday. Yet, despite the sadness ofthe sun to greet us with a morning smile, kids were not ham-pered and alarmed at all as they were all excited to meet theirnew found friends and more importantly, looking forward foranother exciting treat to the next level of their painting ses-sion. MAKULAY artists, Mr. Romano along with his two teammates, Mr. Rene and Ms. Abet brought the kids to a higher lev-el of exploring colors as they painted their own personalized

designs on T-shirts (courtesy of Mom Alexis Laguitan, FCC vicepresident). With this new exciting adventure, kids were drawnup to the world of their creative imagination while experi-menting the wonder of colors. For these kids, playing and mix-ing colors is just fun, nothing more, nothing less, however, ifwe all look deeper inside a child’s inner self, playing and mix-ing different colors conveyed an intense expression of howthey define their everyday life. Some draw robot figures whichexpresses energy and adventurous character, others drawgeometrical patterns, expressing simplicity yet meaningful, while others painted childlike figures, flowers and birds usingsofter and vibrant colors conveying passion, being cheerful

and a deep sense for the love of nature. A very gloomy sky yeta very colourful day for the kids, a gratifying day for our highlyinspired professional MAKULAY artists and of course anotherbonding treat for the moms and dads who were equally excit-ed to see their kids explore the wonder of colors. As always, our day ended with a food treat of a famous ilonggo delicacy, arroz valenciana and spaghetti, courtesy of Ms. VanessaGustilo. Next friday will be another exciting day as kids will betaught how to paint on canvass and shoes. For those interest-ed, follow us at Mcdonalds al corniche seaside, we will bethere to teach you new skills as we adventure to the fascina-tion of colors.

Though opportunities are scarce, Luana’s partner gets occasional carpen-try work that pays 350 pesos ($7) a day.

“We are OK, rebuilding our lives slowly,” she said.“One look at Jacob every night and all my body aches disappear.”“But life here is very difficult.”The couple hopes to marry as soon as Aradana secures a death certificate

for his wife, whose body was among hundreds that have not been found.Luana said she gets no sleep at night fanning her son while Aradana rests

his aching body after long hours at work.Like many other Haiyan survivors, Luana said aid has not come fast

enough.A promised government loan she had been counting on to start a small

business selling rice from her home has not been given.A third of Aradana’s pay is spent on the 18-kilometre (11-mile) commute

to the city where he works, leaving them with barely enough to buy rice andsardines.

“I want to help my husband. He doesn’t always have construction jobs sowe need a steady source of income,” said Luana, a high school graduate, whoused to give manicures and massages to her neighbours. “I also want to buy atelevision set. My neighbours are crazy about soap operas but I want to knowwhen the next typhoon is coming so I can prepare.” —AFP
