“I transferred to FDU-Vancouver from our Madison campus for a year of study. Original-ly I was only supposed to stay a semester, but after the first few weeks I realized it was essen-tial for both my education and experiences to remain in Vancouver for a full year. Although the campus is small, it brings a greater sense of ownership when saying “I go to Fairleigh Dickinson University.” We are a fast paced growing school that has plenty of opportunity for student involvement. The part that I like most about this campus, is how culturally diverse we are. Keeping in mind that Peter Sammartino originally created FDU to become an institution “of and for the world” I can honestly say in my opinion that Fairleigh Dickinson-Vancouver has accomplished just that.” — Ryan Barth-Dwyer, USA

Fairleigh Dickinson University offers a truly unique exper-ience to all of its students: the opportunity to move seam-lessly between countries to complete an undergraduate degree. All courses taken at the Vancouver campus are transferable to other FDU campuses.

MADS 6612–Strategic Management

“What I value the most about FDU are the flexible programs, knowledgeable faculty, and enthusiastic students. The MAS program itself is well organized: a practical, up-to-date, and relevant course that is much more useful for a student’s career than an MBA. The assignments are intended to develop the kind of knowledge, skills, and attributes that are very much in demand in today’s workplace, and the faculty ensure that learning is in-depth, academically rigorous—and fun! The online library resources are excellent for developing superior research skills, and I felt that the whole program teaches students to be better learners and prepares them to be leaders in their field. The professors are very encourag-ing: they have high standards but are always ready to assist, and they guarantee interesting class discussions. The school has done an excellent job of selecting the best students from around the world so that the multicultural experience adds to what students learn and what they need to learn for success in international business. I would definitely recommend the FDU MAS program to anyone who is seeking the very best education!” — Jessica Kanghyun Lee, Korea

• Organizational Decision Making (MADS 6610): This course examines the processes in organizational decision making, and includes topics such as administrative style and decision making, problem diagnosis, search for solu-tions, group decision-making, decision aids and support systems.

• Seminar in Strategic Management – Capstone course (MADS 6612): This course is the last course in the program, and it focuses on approaches to formulating strategies that enable organizations to adapt to changing social, techno-logical, economic and political conditions.

“ Taking the Pre-University Program (PUP) at FDU has enabled me to learn the academic English I needed to be successful in a Bachelors’ degree program. It was needed as preparation time for me to be a regular University student and to make myself more knowledgeable and familiar with the expectations of the North American educational system. Because the University offered this program, I was able to focus more on the essentials that were needed to become a regular University student in an English speaking country. As a PUP student, I also earned credits towards my undergraduate degree: FDU allowed me to take regular university courses that required less English skills so that I could make the most efficient use of my time. FDU’s Pre University Program was an effective way for me to be a successful International student.”— Gayoung Shin, Korea

Pre-Master’s Program Hours Per Week Credits

EPS 5099 Academic Writing Skills–Masters 6 4.5

EPS 5199 Workshop in Academic 3 1.5 Communication Skills–Masters

MAS Course* 3 3.0

*MAS course varies per term

During the first term at FDU, students enrolled in the PMP take two academic preparation courses and one Master’s degree course.

EPS 5099 students focus on skill development in five specific areas: academic and professional writing; critical reading and thinking; oral communication; foundations for research; and orientation to the culture of North American graduate stud-ies. Students write reports and essays that inform and persuade, using strategies and language suitable for explanation and argument. In addition, Students examine text structures, which assist them to read effectively and critically and to focus on language, thinking, and organization required for writing to meet course expectations.

Students listen to lectures, taking notes and writing summaries and critiques, and give oral presentations, with and without technology, lead and participate in discussions/meetings, and interview others. Working with on-line and field research, stu-dents talk and write about their research findings, and document using the APA style sheet. Through various kinds of regular practice and interactions, students explore relevant global issues and topics of interest as they gain foundational skills and knowledge for their graduate studies.

The workshop component, EPS 5199, provides students opportunities to practice academic writing and oral communication and for individualized consultations with the instructor. Students are expected to maintain a portfolio of work, to self-monitor skill progress and to give input regarding course direction.

Global Scholars Program

“As a global scholar, I enjoy international experiences. I also travelled to United Arab Emirates with four other FDU students from Vancouver and New Jersey as delegates at “Education Without Borders”, a biennial international student conference that creates networks across cultures. There I met with students from all over the world, listened to their stories and told my own. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life.” — Thy Truong, Vietnam
