Fashion Designer (Ages 8-12)Young girls graduate from playing dress up to designing their own fashions by using the same design principles used by professionals. Basic sketching techniques, coordinating colors for the best effect, mixing textures and patterns for scale and perception and applying cultural fashion history to each girl’s individual style and portfolio will be covered. Designs come to life with beautifully patterned papers, ribbons, sequins, jewels and oodles of other embellishments. Collaborative “design team” challenges make this hands-on, minds-on adventure into the world of design very exciting. No sewing is done in this class. Instruction provided by Fastforward Kids.

Art Starz: Canvas Kids (Ages 6+)Young artists will have a blast painting animals, still lifes and landscapes using a step-by-step method. Art Starz: Studio Painting (Ages 6+)Calling all young painters! Grab a cup of water and a paintbrush and join Art Starz as we wander into the world of watercolors and acrylics. Young painters will practice a variety of watercolor techniques such as wet-into-wet and dropping “jewels.” Basic color theory will also be explored as they learn about blending and mixing colors using acrylics. Young painters will take home at least one large painting on canvas as well as a mini canvas with an easel. A $20 supply fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of class.

Art Starz: Studio Drawing (Ages 8+)First learn to see, then learn to draw. Young artists will learn tips and techniques from an Art Starz artist and how to draw like a pro! Students will have fun warming up with a variety of challenging exercises designed to help them identify value, proportions and composition. They will draw from still lifes and work with other resource materials, such as photos of wild animals and pets. Special techniques like drawing fur and animal’s eyes so that they look realistic will also be covered. Students will use a variety of dry media including charcoal, chalk pastel, high quality drawing pencils and colored pencils on paper. Art Starz: Cartoon Drawing (Ages 8+)Does your child have a knack for doodling? Experienced Art Starz instructors will guide young cartoonists in creating a variety of drawings as well as their own original characters. Students will produce a 3-panel comic strip and learn to incorporate word bubbles, inking and other elements of interest. Various hand-made animation devices such as flip books and an animation wheel will also be created. Music, Dance & Drama Move & Groove - Urban Art & Dance (Ages 5-10)Young dancers will move and groove as they explore self-expression through the arts. Classes start off with a fun and creative urban art lesson. Then we wipe our hands clean and get funky with an active breakdancing session. Our week long workshops are great for first time dancers and we keep lessons challenging for our more experienced students. Student artwork and dance moves will be shown off to family and friends at our end of program art show at Brick inside Blue Star, located in downtown San Antonio. Students are separated into two groups during class, ages 5-7 and 8-10. Instruction provided by Onsite Youth Training.

Recreation & sports Wheels, Wings & Motorized Things (Ages 5-7)This class offers students a safe, educationally enriching STEM Program experience that is fun and challenging using simple machines. The program focuses on the vital STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and challenges kids to think while having fun. With over 15 new games, projects and activities not found in stores, this innovative program provides opportunities for imagination to thrive in hands-on learning. Under the guidance of Fastforward Kids’ certified educators, your child will develop personal creativity, following instructions, eye-hand coordination and problem solving skills! Together, under the instruction of former science teacher John MacLaren, we will create the largest, biggest and messiest explosion of them all! Parents are invited for a Friday finale showcase guided by the young scientists themselves to see first-hand demonstrations of what was learned during the week.

Throughout the week, Jr. doctors will observe and perform real-life surgery on a brain, heart, eye and skin while learning about systems of the body including: skeletal, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, nervous and more! Jaws will drop when they experience what bones, muscles and fat look and feel like. Conditional formatting will be mastered by the time they build their final project… a serious racing game. GENERAL INFORMATION— Classes in this publication are for youth only. We ask that you adhere to the age requirements listed in the course description. The Community Education Program of NEISD is conducted for the benefit and enjoyment of community patrons. Classes are offered for people of all ages regardless of where they live. Classes offered are non-credit. Financial support for the program comes from class tuition. Every effort has been made to make this publication accurate as of the publication date; however, all policies, tuitions/fees, instructors and class content are subject to change at any time by appropriate action of instructors or administrators of this program. All classes require pre-registration. Early registration is encouraged to avoid class cancellations due to low enrollment. REFUND POLICY—We understand things happen from time to time that get in the way of you attending a course in which you enrolled and planned to attend. If this is your situation, please give us a call and we will issue a credit of the tuition paid that can be applied to any course you wish to take in the future. Request for refund must be made by calling Community Education at 407-0140 option 3. CANCELLATIONS—If we cancel your class, you will receive a full refund by check or credit on charge card.
