    B_U.M_P., Birmingham Urban Mountain Pedalers, meets the first Wednesdayof each month at 7:00pm at the Hoover Public library. The Hoover PublicLibrary is located at the intersection of Hwy 31 and I 459. Membership is by

    participation in meetings, trips, and rides and is open to the general public.

    At our February meeting we elected officers and accepted volunteers for variouscommittees. The officers are President - Griff Goade, Vice President - Ken Pitts,Secretary - Bill Harrington, and Treasurer - Tammy Holander. The volunteerpositions filled were Land Access - Ken Hester and BinHarrington" Trip Committee -Bill Harrington, Ellis Ryan, Tammy HoHander, and Shelly McCain, Newsletter BillHarrington and Ellis Ryan, Publicity - Shelly McCain" Ride Coordinator is still open.

    The regrading of the Red Trail at Oak Mountain State Park as reported in theJ anuary BUMPNEWS has begun. Most of the trail on the top of the mountain hasbeen reworked at this writing. The purpose of the regrading is to restore theoriginal drainage structures of the old road to prevent continued erosion. Althoughthe trail looks very different immediately after it has been regraded, within a year theit should look much like it did before, minus the erosion. We are still working toprovide additional trail access at0ak Mountain. The park is open to the idea andwe are in the process of negotiating the exact location of the additional trail(s).BUMP is also in the process of negotiating for new bicycle trails in the NationalForests in Alabama. This will be done strictly by the volunteer effort of cyclists.

    Anyone interested in volunteering for either or both of these projects shouldcontact Bill Harrington at the numbers listed below.

    At the February meeting, we decided to schedule another weekend trip on March15 - 17. The newly appointed trail committee met to determine where to go and topropose a future out of town ride schedule. T he schedule is: March' 5-17, PisgahNational Forest near Brevard" North Carolina, Trip Leader - EUisRyan 879-5700.April' 2-14, Florida, probably back to T aUahassee and St. Marks, May' 0-'2,Mountain trip, location to be determined, J une 7-9" Mountain trip, location to bedetermined.
