Today's readings invite us to trust fully in the Lord and to examine those times in which
we trust more in ourselves than in the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives. Saint Paul defends his apostolic ministry in his letter to the Corinthians despite having persecuted the Church and being rejected by those who did not accept or understand him. He always trusted the risen Christ who called him one day to send him forth to preach a new message. Jesus himself, in the Gospel, asks the apostles to cast their nets and fish even though, according to Peter and his companions, there weren't many fish. This is a moment of trust and becomes an experience of sorrow and a search for forgiveness. Jesus does not reprimand Peter for his lack of faith; instead he invites him to understand that his new mission is "catching men." How many times have we trusted more in ourselves than in the Lord? When we recognize these times, Jesus invites us to discover new sources of evangelization and not to feel frustrated in our ministerial work. Let us remember that we are called to fish, even when there are not many to catch, because the true fisherman will encourage us.
From the Desk of Father Kurt Dear Parishioners
I remember when I was a young boy fishing with my dad, thinking to myself maybe I should be fishing out the other side of the boat. I must have just recently heard the Gospel that was read for this Sunday. What excitement it must have been for Peter to bring in all those fish. However, this catch meant much more to Peter than just fish. He had just placed his trust in a man that he had come to believe is his savior, and this man preformed a miracle in his sight. Peter would never be the same again, he would have no choice but to follow the man that had called him to be a fisher of men.
When I consented to becoming a Priest, I too felt compelled to listen to the call of God to become a fisher of men. When Jesus touches your soul with his love and grace it is hard not be overcome with love and a desire to do whatever he tells you. And at times takes you to places were you never expected to go. Priesthood is a beautiful calling that has brought me much joy, and I am so glad that I was chosen for this calling. I pray that other young men sitting in the boat with their fathers will here the call of Christ to come follow me.

Respect Life It is alarming hear about the
persecution of Christians. Each month, 255 Christians are killed for their faith, 180 Christian women are raped, sexually harassed, or forced into marriage, 104 are abducted, and 66 Christian churches and properties are
attacked. Every year, Open Doors USA (started by Brother Andrew in 1955) releases the World Watch List – a global indicator of countries where human and religious rights are being violated, and those countries most vulnerable to societal unrest and destabilization. Please pray for our sisters and brothers in Christ who are facing persecution for their faith. Learn more at www.opendoorsusa.org.
