1. Attached is the itinerary from our pilot year Global Israel Experience. This is just a sample to

give a taste of what the program looked like but we want YOU to share your own creativity and

not to be bound by last years program (and of course, follow the general instructions of

locations as shared separately).

2. Tour Operator does not need to include outside speakers or scholar in residence. However, the

cost of a tour guide should be included.

3. Tour Operator does not need to include health/travel insurance

4. Shabbat program should be a Shomer Shabbat program (only walking tours) and should leave

free time as well.

Maje Meiri will be our tour guide for the trip. Maje has been guiding groups for many years, has a background in informal Jewish education, theatre and sports. He has run leadership training for students of all ages and is also a medical clown in a Medical Center in Tel Aviv. Maje has been active for many years in the youth movement called Tzofim- The Israeli Scouts Movement. He is a father of two children: Maya & Lavi, and is always learning from them. He is knowledgeable, fun & creative and will certainly make the Global Israel Experience an incredible week!

Meet GIE’s Scholar in Residence: Dr. Ruth Nemzoff Dr. Ruth Nemzoff is a resident scholar at Brandeis Women's Studies Research Center. She has lectured in over 350 venues on emerging adulthood, parenting adult children, empty nest, intermarriage, grandparenting, and family dynamics in intergenerational families. Currently, she is an advice columnist for the American Israelite, as well as a frequent blogger for The Huffington Post and Betterafter50. Ruth is the mother of four adult children, four in-law children and grandmother of ten.

Day 1: Monday, December 24th, 2018

4:00 PM Arrive to Ben Gurion International Airport. Welcome by an Amiel representative and assistance with arrival procedures. Transfer to the hotel.

Check in at Medi Terre Hotel on the Mediterranean shore. The Medi Terre is a new modern Class ‘A’ hotel created for those who value comfort, exclusivity, non-intrusive quiet service, and superior quality. The hotel is located just across from a gorgeous beach with umbrellas, sun loungers, and cozy coffee shops.

Welcome Dinner & “Grand” Opening of G2’s Global Israel Experience including fun games to meet & interact with the other G2 participants. There will be special time for the Grandparents to meet the other Grandparents and Grandchildren to get to know the other Grandchildren. And Israel Gemories!

The Coast Area

Finding the Lost Tribes: We’ll visit the ancient city of Akko and meet with actors dressed as people from the specific time of the site’s history. You will be briefed on the history of the site and will lead yourselves through riddles and clues from one point to another on the site. At each point you will meet the instructor who will be acting as a character from the history.

1:00 PM Enjoy lunch at Roots in Historic Akko.

View scenic Haifa from the Rakevel cable cars! The line runs from the Bat Galim Promenade to the Stella Maris lookout point on top of Mount Carmel. The ride is five minutes in a glass car that allows you to enjoy the scenery from every angle, including the beautiful Bahai Gardens with its impressive gardens.

4:00 PM

Our final stop for the day will be the Cave of Elijah. Cave is where the prophet Elijah is believed to have prayed before challenging the priests of Ba’al on Mt Carmel and where he is said to have hidden from the wrath of Queen Jezebel afterwards. At this holy and mystical place, GP’s will have an opportunity to share a prayer or poem of hope with their GC.

Optional Night Activity: Take a walk along the Rishonim Promenade with nine unique pergolas made of wood and stone in different geometric structures and colors. Along the promenade there are cafes and restaurants as well as activities. In its center, you can ride the elevator to the sea, which allows you to descend from the cliff to the beach in only 20 seconds!

The Latrun Armored Museum (Yad Lashiryon) is Israel’s official memorial for soldiers from the Armored Corps who fell in combat. Latrun is one of the largest and most diverse tank museums in the world, located on the site of a significant battle during the 1948 War of Independence. The tour will be led by an Israeli soldier. Grandparents will have an opportunity to share with Grandchildren what they remember hearing, seeing and feeling during significant moments of Israel’s history. Grandchildren will have the opportunity to learn and explore the tanks of the IDF from all their wars.

Beta Yisrael Village–step into the world of Ethiopian Jews. Through fun and interactive workshops (including Amharic writing, fire building & pita making, mud building, farming, etc.), you will discover the rich Ethiopian-Israeli culture and heritage. Meet and interact with member of the Ethiopian-Israeli community. Enjoy a traditional Ethiopian lunch.

3:30 PM Jeep ride through the desert at Kibbutz Sde Boker where we will learn about Israel’s first Prime Minister David Ben Gurion

Masada: Who's Got Talent? Using props & costumes, GPGC’s will be invited to create a theatric performance around the story of Masada. You will visit one of the oldest Synagogues after a meaningful ceremony and have an opportunity to write home a postcard from Masada. We will all ascend and descend by the Cable Car.

Arrive at Ibis Hotel, of the famous European hotels brand, has recently opened

this new and modern Ibis Jerusalem Hotel. Located at Zion Square, Ibis

Shabbat Dinner with IDF Soldiers as one G2 family, Grandparents and Grandchildren will enjoy a Shabbat dinner together at the hotel in which we’ll have time to reflect, connect and inspire each other. At this meal, we will be joined by “Lone Soldiers” who are IDF soldiers that serve after immigrating to Israel. We will have a chance to hear their stories, ask questions and bond with these special friends.

In the evening, we will go to Migdal David to see the famous King David Sound and Light Show which displays the history of the city of Jerusalem along the ancient stones. The show features powerful laser projectors, a computerized system operating, audio players, computers and 10 kilometers of advanced cable infrastructure.

The story of The City of David began over 3,000 years ago when King David left the city of Hebron for a small hilltop city known as Jerusalem, establishing it as the unified capital of the tribes of Israel. Years later, David's son, King Solomon, built the First Temple next to the City of David on top of Mount Moriah, the site of the binding of Isaac, and with it, this hilltop became one of the most important sites in the world.

11:15 AM Western Wall: Moments to Last a Life Time. Walking from The City of David to Robinson's Arch, we'll be accompanied by special Klezmer music. We will have a special ceremony including an opportunity to write notes and place in the Kotel

We’ll proceed through the Old City and walk through the Jewish Quarter, which was reconstructed after the city was unified after the Six-Day War in 1967. We’ll enjoy fun and games as we take part in a Scavenger Hunt through the Old City finding archeological artifacts and sites. This hunt paints a majestic canvas that tells the story of Jerusalem through the ages.

Our adventure continues in the Machane Yehuda Market (shuk), one of the most beautiful markets and familiar icons in Israel. Located in Jerusalem, the market and its character adds to the city’s unique flavor. Within the market you can find everything, from clothes to housewares; flowers, art, accessories; and every variety of fresh and specialty food: sweets, baked goods, meat, fish, eggs, produce, spices, dairy products and so much more.

Beit Hatfusot: Museum of the Jewish People Our Global Israel Experience will culminate in a very special visit to the Museum of the Jewish People. We will have the opportunity to look back into our family tree and learn new facts about our heritage. There are special exhibits including: “Let There Be Laughter”–Jewish Humor Around the World, “Heroes”–Trailblazers of the Jewish People and “My Family Story”–a fun-filled, meaningful, personal, global and multigenerational Jewish heritage journey to the past, where the exploration of one’s Jewish family story, genealogy and traditions culminates in an artistic installation.

12:45 PM Explore Tel Aviv/Yafo through the Generations Beautiful Jaffa Lookout to see the beautiful & bustling Tel Aviv, short walk through one of the oldest cities in the world to modern first Hebrew city.

Concluding Ceremony with Mr. Isaac Herzog, Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel We will conclude the G2 experience through a fun and meaningful ceremony at the Hagana Museum. Mr. Herzog will reflect on the influence of his grandparents in his life.
