President’s Message Jim Purcell
Happy Valentine’s Day CCSB members. February is the time of year when we make that very special effort to express our affection, admiration, and appreciation to those we love. So let’s be sure to smell the roses, savor the chocolates, admire the bling, relish the wine, and delight in a delectable dinner out with those we love. Then, after all that, let’s turn our attention to that other love in our lives…our Cor-vettes. Maybe it would welcome a new pair of shoes, so check those tires, front and rear, and make sure the soles have good tread. Indulge your Corvette in a Spa Day by pampering it with a high quality professional detailing. Consider treating your Corvette to a currently popular fad known as a “full body cleanse”. Detoxify your Corvette with a good coolant sys-tem flush and oil change. Renew those stiff achy joints and fittings with a body lube. Is your baby feeling a little tired and run down? I guess it could be due to Low-T, but maybe it’s time
to get those fuel injectors cleaned and replace that dirty old air cleaner. Has your sweetie been feeling a little ignored lately and suffering from “garage fever”? Then we have a sure cure for that. We have parties galore, road trips aplenty, and copious adventures coming up that will thrill and excite both you and your Corvette. So come Valentine’s Day, shower your loved ones with all the attention they deserve, then check out our Activities column and the Events page on the CCSB website and really show them how much you love and appreciate them.
Jalama Beach Burger Run Jim Purcell
Come join us on Saturday February 28th for a drive up the picturesque Gaviota Coast and through the roll-ing hills on Highway 1. We’ll turn off HWY 1 and follow the scenic meandering road leading to Jalama Beach. Once there we will indulge ourselves by enjoying the world famous “Jalama Burger” while overlooking one of the most scenic beaches on the California coast. Our tentative plan is to gather at 10:15am at the 76 Service Station at the Winchester Canyon exit on High-way 101 in Goleta. The 50 mile trek should take about an hour. The Jalama Beach Store and Grill is just inside the Jalama Beach County Park whose $10 day use fee is waived with a validated purchase at the grill or store. However, the waiver is only good for one hour so if you wish to spend more time exploring and enjoying the beach you should plan on paying the fee. There are several options upon departure from Jalama which include heading toward Lompoc and picking up Highway 246 to Solvang and the Santa Ynez Valley. Another option is to head back Highway 1 to High-way 101 North for a short distance to the Nojoqui Falls turn off leading to Alisal Road into Solvang. The falls are likely to be flowing well and might be worth taking the short hike up to see them. Or just return to Santa Barbara on Highway 101 South. Please contact Jim Purcell if you are interested in participating in this run. Ivy Aanderud will also have a sign-up sheet at the next Monthly meeting on Tuesday February 3rd . The link below will take you to the Jalama Beach Store and Grill website where you will find the full menu for you dining options. http://www.jalamabeachstore.net/ NOTE: This run is replacing the originally scheduled run to the Santa Paula Aviation Museum on Sunday March 1st which has been canceled. Thanks to Jonathan Ziegler and Alan Emslie for offering up great ideas for getting our Corvettes on the road for yet another fun driving experience.

NCM Master Ambassador Frank LoMonaco The National Corvette Museum has announced that the following people will be in-ducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame as part of the 18th Annual Corvette Hall of Fame Ceremony: Herb Fishel in the category of Racing; Rick Hendrick in the cate-gory of Enthusiast; and Russ McLean in the category of GM/Chevrolet. The National Corvette Museum established the Corvette Hall of Fame in 1998 to confer honor and recognition upon the most influential individuals in the history of the Corvette. The award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to their respective fields, each having reached the highest level of accomplishment. Inductees must also reflect the highest standards of integrity and character to posi-
tively enhance the prestige of the Corvette and the National Corvette Museum. The 2015 Corvette Hall of Fame recipients will be inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame during a ceremony and banquet on Friday, September 4, 2015. Their induction will take place as part of the Museum’s 21st Anni-versary Celebration, September 3-5, 2015. This is the highest honor bestowed by the Museum to people for their contributions to the past, present and future of Corvette. You can read more about these honorees on the National

Another amazing fun run to Simi Valley is scheduled on Sunday, Feb-ruary 15. Club members will travel to Fillmore and then traverse through unique Grimes Canyon, which began originally as a stage-coach route. Once in Simi Valley, we will feast on scrumptious BBQ at Famous Dave’s before taking in a live matinee performance of the hit Broadway musical, “Hairspray” at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. The run will leave from Carpinteria at 10:30a, have lunch at noon and the performance starts at 2:00p (exact details will be sent to participants). Theater tickets are $18 (group rate for of 10+). Contact Ivy Aanderud to sign-up: [email protected] and cell: 805-827-0563. For more information, click on the links below. Simi Valley Run
There was quite an entourage of CCSB members that followed Tony and Paula Megowan from Carpinteria down Highway 101 and eventually over to the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar. Our route took us through the scenic Santa Clara River Valley as we followed Highway 126 through Santa Paula and Fillmore to the Golden State Freeway. Our timely arrival at the Nethercutt allowed all the Corvettes to park in front of the museum which was quite a sight. Inside the museum was an amazing collection of incredibly rare auto-mobiles dating back to the turn of the Twentieth century. Some of the finest examples of automobile styling and craftsmanship were on dis-play representing the Antique Era (1890’s – 1915), the Vintage Era (1916 – 1924), the Classic Era (1925 – 1948), and the Post-War Era (1945 – 1970’s) which included a couple of vintage Corvettes. Image and styling took precedence over power and performance in those ear-ly years. A prime example of this was evident in a gorgeous 1914 Pierce-Arrow whose massive 824 cubic inch engine cranked out a whopping 66 horse power. In those days it wasn’t so much how fast you got there as how stylish you looked in the process. Many of the vehicles looked to be twice as big as today’s largest SUV’s, and they appeared to seat four comfortably...compared to a horse and buggy rig. Several hours were spent strolling and admiring the artistic qualities of this incredible automobile collection.
Departing the Nethercutt we headed to Glendale via the I-210 Foothill Freeway to our early afternoon lunch destination. Upon our arrival at the Gauchos Village Brazilian Steakhouse in downtown Glendale we could immediately see this was going to be an epicurean experience of immense proportions. We discovered a plethora of skewered beef, chicken, pork and lamb seasoned and grilled to perfection. Our servers were con-tinually offering up delectable slices of each, one after the other. We were inundated with deliciously prepared tri-tip, top sirloin, pork ribs, spicy garlic chicken, Polish and Brazilian sausage, Parmesan pork and even grilled pineapple to top it all off. Of course,
this was in addition to the hot buffet and salad bar which included numerous hot vegetables, stews, stroga-noff, seasoned fish fillets, soups, and freshly made gourmet salads. At the end of it all everyone was pretty much done with eating for the next 24 hours. All in all it was a pretty awesome experience to say the least. Thanks to Bob and Ivy Aanderud for setting up and organizing this incredible cultural and dining adventure.

Daytona 500 Party Hib & Sandy Halverson
This time last year, we asked: Will Earhardt Jr. win Daytona? Yep, he did. What about the 4? Harvick–always bridesmaid. Never a bride. Sprint Cup in his future? Indeed, it was. As for questions about 2015? Well, here's a biggie: Will Gordon retire at the end the season? How about Carl Edwards going to Gibbs? Scuttlebutt is he left Roush/Fenway because he couldn't win a championship there. At JGR, will '15 be Carl's year? How will NASCAR's ongoing replacement of pit lane officials with video replay technology affect a crew chief's pit stop decisions?
When's the date of Miss Sprint's retirement party and will we be invited? Those and other NASCAR Sprint Cup Series questions will begin to be answered at...

MEMBER HIGHLIGHTS
John Frank joined the club in January and owns two Cor-vettes: a '78 coupe and an '06 coupe.
Where Are They Now: Paul and Barbara Mariano were founding members of CCSB and both were board members for many years. Barbara served as our secretary from 1986 to 1999 and was also activities chairman for two years. Paul served terms as Vice President, President and our NCM ambassador before moving to Hunt-ersville, NC in 2006. Here is a glimpse into their current lives: There are no friends like Corvette friends. Here in Huntersville we are still very active in the Queen City Cor-vette Club of Charlotte, NC. We just returned from the Rolex 24 Hour race in Daytona where the Corvettes finished first and third in class. We had enough from our club attending that we won the club participation award from the Corvette Corral sponsored by Chevrolet. As you probably heard, Barb had a rough October last year and spent over two weeks in the hospital with a virus that caused fluid build up around her lungs and heart. She was a very sick lady for several weeks. All is good now and she is back in the swing of things and bouncy as ever. We are having the club awards banquet this Saturday at the Speedway Club located in the tower of the Char-lotte Motor Speedway. Always a big deal for us as all the people that contributed to the success and fun quotient of QCCC are recognized. This year we added awards for those that had the most "NCM Fever" over the past year. I am still the NCM Ambassador and as you know have started my tenure on the NCM Board of Directors. We held the first meeting of the year at Daytona during the race weekend. Our club has passed the 325 member mark and of the 171 families, 83 are NCM members and 28 of them are lifetime members. Everyone is proud of those numbers and we usually have around 25 couples attending the Bash in April and the Birthday Celebration in August. Still enjoying being close to the kids and grandkids and I think they like us being close also. You guys have a great year out there and we do miss our California friends. Regards, Paul and Barb
