At our past national convention, we selected St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital as our National Charity. Beta Eta made an initial contribution to the Phi Delta Kappa Foundation in support of this national endeavor.

At our meeting of October 18, we voted to set up a canister at the bar for members to make a donation toward this project. We further voted that the Chap-ter would match whatever the brotherhood donated each month.

We are very proud to say that in the next 13 days of October we collected $55.00 and will be presenting to the Foundation a check for $110. This took very little effort to generate these funds for a great charity. Beta Eta wishes to challenge every chapter in the fraternity to exceed our contribution each month.

National President’s Message

On 11 December 2016 we had elections at Missis-sippi Alpha. The results are as follows:

President: Johnny KingVice President: Norman BatemanMaster of Ceremonies: Terry RushTreasurer: Prentiss HicksSergeant of Arms: Scot SmithInner Guard: Hunter PierceOuter Guard: Nate MooreSecretary: Gary Jones

Soon it will be River Ranch time, when we get to meet our brothers from North and South to enjoy

warmth and true brotherhood, from which will bring a better understanding of what the Phi Delta Kappa is all about!

Most Phi Delta Chapters will have a sweetheart dinner dance to honor someone special in their

chapter who has gone the extra mile to dedicate her time and effort to benefit our organization and the chapter house. Happy Valentine’s Day to all our sis-ters out there who make a difference and make our life special!

Winchester Beta Eta will hold their National Sweetheart Dance on 11 Feb 17. Jacki Parks,

our National Sweetheart, and her husband, PNP Chris Parks, will attend this event. Please stop by and wish her well! Her smile still lights up the room.

The following saying is a prescription for a better relationship;

I was wrong.I am sorry. Please forgive me.I love you.I need you.You are important to me.I am proud of you.

Have this prescription refilled and have a Happy Valentine’s Day! I thank all our past and present

sweethearts and every chapter sweetheart for the joy they bring to the Fraternity and my heart!

Also, don’t forget the S.E.C. 20/20 tickets that are available from any National Officer.

The PDK Chapter Chase is quickly becoming a popular annual event hosted by Beta Eta, where a

group of PDK brothers and sweethearts pile into ve-hicles and head out to visit the Northern PDK Chap-ters! It’s a couple of days of fun and brotherhood and a great way to visit chapters you may not get to very often.

www.phideltakappa.org | Page 3

Past Chapter Chases have been held in the spring, so make your plans to be there this

year, all are welcome! This event is one of my fa-vorites, it also gets bigger and bigger every year.

If you have an event you would like me to attend, please let me know and I will show up in my red

suit to show you that we have a National organiza-tion on which we represent all chapters, making sure the SEC is responsibe to their needs and that we are here to help in any way! Constructive criti-cism is always welcomed, working together as a team there is mothering we can’t do to make it a better fraternity!

Always working for the betterment of our great Fraternity! Remember If it is to be, it is up to

me. God Bless America!

The S.E.C. Speaks

Hello brothers and sweethearts! How many of you have already bro-ken your New Year’s resolutions? Not me, well I don’t make any ei-ther, so there! I don’t think I have ever made one in my life. It seems weird to change something that probably needs changed anyway at the beginning of a new year. Do it now and move on.

I do know that I owe a big heartfelt thank you to my Beta Eta broth-ers. They traveled to Kokomo to initiate my father into our Frater-nity. Their whole Ritual Team was in attendance along with a few other great brothers. They allowed us Beta Nu guys to sit back and enjoy the initiation. We did feed them well and I know my dad got to see firsthand what Phi Delta Kappa Brotherhood is all about. It was a very special evening for me and my dad. Thank you also to Ed (Pete) Martin and PNP Don Terruso for bringing him down from Plymouth. Welcome to Phi Delta Kappa dad!

Beta Nu had a great month of December. Our annual Winter Blues Fest grew to standing room only crowd. Many new Blues lovers at-tended and found out about PDK. I was the emcee for the event and even got to strap on my guitar for the last tune. What a blast! Next year we will be doing the WBF on New Year’s Eve. It should be an event not to miss.

Christmas with five grandkids this year was more fun than ever. Seeing the smiles on their faces is priceless. Lilly, the eldest, is nine and was just so happy to have the whole family together that the presents took a back seat to the family time. This girl gets it at such an early age!

Sarah and I also celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary on the 28th. We took a trip down to St. Elmo’s Steakhouse in Indianapo-lis for dinner. They are well known for their shrimp cocktail. Sarah is not a fan so I was able to enjoy the whole thing by myself. Oh my that horseradish sauce is delicious and hot. I had tears running down my face. The meal was outstanding and the service is second to none. What a great evening with my sweetheart! We have a week long Caribbean Cruise planned for the second full week of January to cap off the festivities. This is my first cruise. I sure hope the boat don’t sink!

Remember to get into the 20/20 drawing and help the SEC with travel expenses. Our goal is to hopefully have enough left over to donate to St. Jude’s again this year. I think we will easily do that. Your help is appreciated and heck you might even win some cash back!

Until next time remember to tell your loved ones every day that you love them. Hug a brother and get involved.

Blessed Beyond Belief

Hello from the Flagship of he South, Happy Valentine’s Day !

Please don’t forget our National Sweetheart, Jacki Parks, and if you get the chance to attend the Sweethearts inner and Dance hosted by Beta Eta in Winchester. Go, they re-ally do a wonderful job celebrating our National Sweet-hearts, every year.

And if you can I would like to see EVERY Chapter put on a dinner to honor every Chapter Sweetheart. Because without the support of our ladies we wouldn’t be able to do the good things that each of us do. And last, but not least, you had better not forget to honor and cherish your own Sweetheart at home. They deserve our best not only in February, but every day.

Also in February, us down here in Florida get to gather for a Florida planning meeting. It used to be held in River Ranch but this Year Florida Mu is hosting it in Orlando. I know that they’ll do a great job, they always do ! So if any-body wants a Mid-Winter Thaw, come on down. We could use the company. Looking forward for another chance to share the company of so many good people, otherwise known as PHI DELTS and their Sweethearts !

Please don’t forget to get your S.E.C. 20/20 tickets. Any National Officer can help you get them. Brother Ed Nault, our National Auditor, is doing a great job of chairing the 20/20 this year. We’ve already had the 2 early bird draw-ings and given out $ 140.00 to the four lucky winner and still have the seventeen weekly drawings plus the three drawings during the National Convention, being host-ed by Mississippi Alpha in Meridian, Mississippi. So go ahead and make your reservations early. You know that they’ll do a great job.

Hope to see every-body, soon.

Dear Phi Delts,

Hoping you are well and off to a good start in 2017.

About half of our Chapters have installed Officers for the New Year. Many thanks to those who served their Chapters in 2016, and thank you to all who have stepped up to the plate to make this year one of PDK’s best. Without this dedicated group of Brothers it makes you wonder how long we can continue to survive as a Fraternity.

Like all preceding years, once again our focus should be on growth. But not growth alone, I will take one new Phi Delt willing to work with his Brothers, get involved with Chapter functions, help with-out having to be asked, involvement in some Charitable endeavor, over any five members here for a free ride on the efforts of others. Brother if you are in this last category, I hope me saying this is an eye opener, but chances are you did not bother to fill out a regis-tration to get the magazine and will not see this anyway. Let’s get involved in 2017 and work for the benefit of all in this Fraternity.

I know Febuary brings freezing weather to many of our Chapters, but the temperature does not the actions of dedicated Brothers willing to work for the Good of our Fraternity. Febuary also brings us to Valentine’s Day, a special time to honor our Sweethearts who make us better men by sharing their love and lives with us, and tolerate us when we seem to forget. A Happy Valentine’s Day to our National Sweetheart Jackie Parks and all the Sweethearts of Phi Delta Kappa.

This month some of us will be traveling to Seralago in Kissimmee, FL. This is this year’s new venue instead of River Ranch. Thanks to FL/MU for taking the time to research a new place and for hosting this long standing event; hopefully, we will have plenty of out-of-state visitors to share the Brotherhood.

On March 18, 2017, FL/NU will be hosting our annual Luau to benefit POST, a program that works with pediatric cancer patients and their families. We have been involved with POST for many years now. I pray there comes a time when this will no longer be necessary.

A special mention to Brother Sal Pecora and his wife, Mary. They saw a need at POST for a food pantry for the benefit of all those working families that take their children in for treatments, then have little time left to shop for groceries and fix dinner for the fam-ily. Mary and Sal’s efforts collecting food and delivering it to POST is a Godsend to these families. The world needs more Marys and Sals in it. God Bless.

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

As a new year is upon us I hope everyone made it through the holidays with flying colors. I know it can be a little hectic trying to get all the family members together at the same time. Christina and I had to have a few here and there to get Christmas over with our families. Beta Eta Chapter has a lot of events coming up this month:

February 5th we will be having a Super Bowl Party. Grab your favorite game day snack and come join us. February 11th will be our National Sweetheart Dinner and Dance. Come celebrate this special occasion with our National Sweetheart, Jacki Parks!! The meal will be from 6:30 - 7:30 and will be a delicious Prime Rib Dinner with all the fixins prepared by PNP Scott Dull and his side chefs.

The Program will be from 8:00 - 9:00pm. We will have the Sean Lamb Band beginning at 9:00 - 1:00am. If you haven’t seen this band, I think you will be missing out on one of the best bands around. The cost is $30 per couple for the Meal and Dance. $5 per person for the Dance Only. Guest are Welcome. Please RSVP by February 7th by calling the Chapter House at (765) 584-7461 or Scott Dull at (765) 546-0262. February 18th will be our Comedy Night with the Great Donnie Baker!! This will be the second time we have had him here. He was really good the first time and I’m sure he will be again. Get you tickets at the Chapter House or call (765) 584-7461 to Reserve them.

20/20 Drawings have begun so get your tickets ASAP for more chances to WIN. I have tickets available, you can contact me at (765) 546-0900 for tickets.

February! What a great time to show your love one how much they mean to you. Put the remote up, you have been watching football for over months, college, high school and pro basketball is in full swing and now is the time to get ready and show your love one how much they mean to you. Chapters are having Sweetheart Dances and plan to attend not only your own Chapters, but go visit a Chapter enjoy the good fellowship of others.

I know at Gamma Theta are ladies do so much in helping and preparing are Social Events and I have seen firsthand how some of the other Chapters Ladies are doing the same thing. Lets’ make sure we show those Ladies how much they mean to our Chapter and Fraternity. I’m sure each Chapter has their own Sweetheart of the Year and if you are like my Chapter it is not an easy pick, maybe we should have mul-tiple Sweethearts because so many help out.

We are a men’s’ fraternity, but does anyone out there really believe we would have the fellowship, friendship and success that we enjoy without our Ladies? Be honest with yourself, our Ladies of Phi Delta Kappa are Godsend to us all and let’s take the time to show them how much they mean to each and every one of us. Thank you Ladies and enjoy your month of Love!

Love you Jan Leach!!!!!!

A leap year occurs every four years to help synchronize the calendar year with the solar year, or the length of time it takes the earth to com-plete its orbit about the sun, which is about 365¼ days.
