FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL HEART HEALTHY MONTH
&
FEBRUARY 7TH IS NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY
GO RED FOR WOMEN encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease, and also action to save more lives. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. Know your risk and receive tools to live a heart-healthy life.
Heart disease claims the lives of 1 in 3 women - that’s a third of all mothers, sisters and friends. And more than all forms of cancer, accidents and diabetes combined.
The American Heart Association encourages people to wear red this day to show support for women who have been affected by heart disease or stroke.
On Friday the 7th, Oak Grove Inn residents and staff are asked to show support by participating and wearing red that day in honor of the GO RED FOR WOMEN campaign.
Also, we’ll have out two (2) marked boxes if you would like to make a donation to the American Heart Association and their GO RED FOR WOMEN program in support of their efforts to fight heart disease and stroke in women. Do it for the women in your lives, do it for yourself, or in memory of someone.
One box is located at the Assisted Living Nurse’s Station and the other is in the Independent Living Office Window. Any donation amount will be greatly appreciated. You can pay in cash or by check. If paying by check, make payable to: The American Heart Association. The boxes will be out beginning Monday, January 27th and remain out through February 10th during business hours only (weekends excluded). All monies collected will go directly to the American Heart Association.
In addition to the day of recognition (the GO RED FOR WOMEN campaign), Oak Grove Inn also has scheduled a Heart Health Seminar to address the topic of heart disease and stroke but where it applies to everyone, not just women alone. We have a Registered Nurse with 20+ years of experience, Heather Whitt with Kindred at Home, coming on Thursday, February 6th. The program begins at 2 p.m. and will be held in the AL Activity area. Ms. Whitt will share with you important information that pertains to both heart disease & stroke. Handout sheets will be given to all those who attend.
The Times of Your Life!.......... We want to celebrate with you as you have those “Proud” moments in your life! If you would like to share with everyone some of those moments that are occurring (i.e.; special recognitions or awards, anniversaries, weddings, new babies in the family) please contact Chris by the 15th of each month to submit your information or announcement.
WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU AND ABOUT YOU!

FEBRUARY IS AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH!
Oak Grove Inn will be learning about history by starting with our very own state of Alabama. Join us as we visit the Museum of Alabama on Tuesday, Feb. 11th. Best of all, ADMISSION IS FREE! We’ll leave Oak Grove Inn at 2:00 p.m. More than 800 artifacts, hundreds of images and documents, and twenty-two audiovisual programs tell the story of struggles over the land, the rise of a cotton economy, the Civil War, industrialization, world wars, civil rights, the race to the moon, and more. Voices taken from diaries, letters, speeches, songs, and other sources convey the experiences of Alabamians who lived through and shaped the history of these periods. Please sign-up if you wish to go. Minimum of 5 people required.
The colors of purple, green and gold, colorful masks, King Cakes, strings of beads
and moon pies being thrown into the crowds, that lively music called Dixieland
Jazz- all these describe the sights and sounds of it being MARDI GRAS TIME! Our
Mardi Gras Party will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the IL dining room.
Who will be this year’s Mardi Gras King or Queen? It will be decided, of course, by
the person who finds the little plastic baby inside their slice of King Cake.
No Mardi Gras festivity would not be complete without that spirited, toe-tapping
sound of Dixieland music. We are so happy to welcome back The Dixielanders
Band to perform for us. So get ready to have a good ole time and as they say in
the French Quarter….....
“Laissez les bons temps rouler”
(Lazay-Lay Bon-Tom Roulay) when translated means,
“LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!”
