Here are some pics from the International Presidents meeting held in Portugal last year. These events are organised by Porsche AG and come around every four years or so, when all Porsche Club Presidents worldwide are invited. Peter and Yvonne represented the Club and were treated to a great event, driving both the current GT3RS and the upcoming electric Taycan. Their only disappointment was having to hand both cars back at the end of the event! For the full story and Peter’s impression of the upcoming Taycan (and the GT3RS), please see his full report on the club website under the “News and Reports” tab.

And the Winner is....... Members who paid their 2020 membership by the first club meeting went into the draw to win an official 2020 Porsche

Calendar, including the collectable bronze coin issued each year

with the official Porsche Calendars. This year’s coin celebrated the Cayenne Turbo Coupe. Congratulations to Marc & Karena Sherriff.

Thanks also to Porsche Centre Perth Service Manager, Eddie Mura, for agreeing to pull out the winning name from the 200+ entries.

Ferrari Club Australia Day Run 27th January Thanks to the members who braved the heat and gathered at the car park in Midland for the start of the run. As is now custom, we outnumbered the Ferraris, but the sight of all the cars lined up brought out a few curious members of the public, who were soon into “selfie” mode, snapping away happily. After a short intro from Frank Ferrari and the handing out of the run sheets, members were driving off, eventually ending up at the Vines Resort for a meal and drinks. It was great to catch up with members and also to meet some new ones who came on the run. Don’t miss the next Social Run - great people + great cars = great days out!!

2019 Sports Series Results Another year down and another set of Club Sports Series Champions crowned. For those that do not know, the Club Sports Series is split into two Championships. One is the Outright Championship and the other is the Club or Class Championship. Think of them as the Overall Line Honours winner and the Handicap winner in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. They are run concurrently at each event and your time becomes your score for the day. Points are awarded in each Championship, and in the Club Championship in your specific Class. There is also no panel to panel racing in the series. It is just you, your car and that ever present and annoying clock! So, on to the 2019 Championships. Firstly the Outright Championship. No real surprises here, as the more powerful models are at the pointy end, as you would expect. However, with GT3RS’s, GT3’s, GT4’s, a very fast Boxster S and a couple of 911 based race cars in the paddock, you still have to be a pretty handy driver to succeed and cannot rely on horsepower alone. Of the seven rounds held last year, Barry Baltinas in his GT3RS won five out of the six he attended, Daniel Bathe in his Boxster S won the only Hillclimb round and Kurt Baur in his Boxster Spyder won the event held at the Kwinana Motorplex. As only six rounds count towards your score at the end of the year, Barry was crowned the Outright Champion for a second time, adding to his 2018 win. The next few places were very tight, with only ten points separating second place from fifth place. Runner-up by only three points was Kurt Baur in his Boxster Spyder, just squeezing out Colin Strickland into third in his 911 based turbo race car. A very close competition across a varied range of Porsche models. Now to the Club or Class Championship, which splits the various Porsche models into Classes based on power to weight in an effort to level the playing field. And wow, did the playing field get levelled! A three way tie for first place, and only twenty points between first and sixth place. Twenty points is only one race win, so there were many members in the hunt. On a countback, Toby Copley and Peter Ogden couldn’t be separated and were duly crowned joint Club Champions. Barry Baltinas was relegated to second place overall on the countback, as he missed one event and therefore didn’t score. Third place overall went to Kurt Baur in his Boxster Spyder. Following Kurt were Colin Strickland, Brad Dunne, Daniel Bathe and David Blainey — separated by only six points. A very close competition, as it is designed to be. Of course, to win the Club Championship, first you have to win your Class. Congratulations to the following members who won their Class -: Open A - Barry Baltinas (911 GT3RS) Open B - Kurt Baur (Boxster Spyder) GT A - Phil Green (911 GTS) Class A - Peter Ogden (996 Cabriolet) Class B - Toby Copley (986 Boxster S) Class C - Brad Dunne (987 Cayman) Class D - Bill Wright (911 SC) Dallas Copley (986 Boxster S) won the Ladies Plate and finished in the Top Ten overall, despite missing a couple of events. The sought after “Spirit of the Series” Award was presented to Bill Wright. Well done to all for participating and making the series what it is. Good luck to you in defending your titles this season. Of course, the Series cannot be run without the Officials and volunteers who give their time to run the events and ensure permits and paperwork is in order. A BIG, BIG thank you to these people for their

help over the year. These included Colin Strickland and Peter Ogden (Scrutineering), Craig Lampard (Clerk of Course duties), Bill Richards (Steward’s duties), Laurie Parmenter and Raymond Shaw (Timing), the members of the Club Committee who assisted at each event, and the Kardashian Wagon for being on standby as the recovery vehicle! (Apologies if I have not mentioned everyone)

Lastly, congratulations to the following members who broke Club Lap records during the year -: Bill Wright in his 911SC broke the long-standing Barbagallo Long Circuit Class D record which had been set almost five years ago, stopping the clock at 73.07 seconds.

Daniel Bathe in his 987 Boxster S broke his own Class Open B record, setting a new time of 65.20 seconds. (Daniel also holds the Barbagallo Short circuit record and set the new Collie Long Track record for his Class during the year). Thanks again to all for a great year and good luck to you all in the current series. Go on, give it a go!

911 Speedster (991 Model) Shown to the world in 2018 at the “70 Years of Porsche Sports Cars” anniversary, it created quite a storm, despite only being a concept vehicle. Lucky for us, it eventually made it to production.

We were told that visually, the new Speedster linked back to the 356 “No. 1” Roadster from 1948. This was also the number produced - 1948 cars in total, worldwide. A Limited Edition Porsche indeed and Perth would be getting two of those. This is one of those two cars and is numbered 1269. It is much better looking in the flesh than these photos show, and this one appears to have the optional Heritage Pack with the Black and Cognac interior colours, and the number 70 motorsport decals. Hopefully we will see it out and about in Perth, much like Club Member Rukshen’s 1989 911 Speedster which he drove on the Australia Day run. Great to see another rare Porsche model out in the wild!
