Congratulations to the people who participated in the
Spelling Bee .The Spelling Bee was held February 2,
2012. Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders from
Emma and Brawner participated. There were 26
students in all! The three judges were Mrs. Jenkins,
Mrs. McRenolds, and Mrs. Foster. All of the
participants received certificates and the 1st and 2nd
place winners received trophies. The 1st place
winner was
Jaden Couto in
4th grade. He
will represent our
school in the
District Spelling
Bee. The second place winner was Leah
D’Souza. Picture by Jaden Ford
Fifth graders had their DARE graduation
January nineteenth. They were awarded with a
certificate, a shirt, and a trip to the DARE store
where you could get five to six items. Certain
students wrote an essay and four were chosen
to read it. DARE included
twelve lessons that were
about drugs and bullying.
Some drugs included
marijuana, crack cocaine,
and inhalants. These drugs
can give you side affects
such as sweating, yellow
teeth, brain damage, and it
could paralyze you.
There are tons more
side effects to these
drugs. Fifth graders
enjoyed DARE and
would not change a
thing. For Granbury,
officer Hastings is the dare officer. On
the day of the graduation he dressed
up like a girl for the fifth graders. We
hope you all have fun with officer
Hastings when you get to fifth grade.

Most people think video games have no benefits,
but they don’t realize that games can improve eye-
hand coordination. When it’s cold outside, video
games are the best things available. If you have an
X-box Kinect it can benefit your physical health. You
don’t just sit, you move around. Although video
games may damage eyesight, it also builds
creativity. Video games help create more
strategizing. Sometimes it helps you memorize
certain things like the controls so your fingers work

preferred by Brawner students. Others like Mario
Kart and Rock Band,
but Guitar Hero was
apparently the best

before Jump Rope For Heart. They
worked with us during our P.E. time
showing us some different tricks.
We did Jump Rope For Heart to raise
money for heart cancer. Mrs. Phillips
asked everybody to bring at least $5. All
the money went to the American Heart
Association. Everybody was jumping
with a jump rope. Jump Rope For Heart
was very fun. I hope you had as much
fun as we did!

Warriors : Into the Wild
Warriors is a book written by the author Erin
Hunter, who also wrote the Seekers Series. You will
need to read them in order. There are four series out
now. The 1st series has a point of view of one of the
characters, Firestar. He is determined, he doesn’t
give up, and he’s a strong character.
The story setting takes place in the woods, where
they work to protect their boundaries.
If you like science fiction and adventure, you will
enjoy this series. You can find this book or any of the
