BALLARAT STATION PRECINCT REDEVELOPMENT

When does the new car park open? The new car park will be open on Sunday 24 February.

How do I get to the new car park? The new car park will be accessible to eastbound and westbound traffic on Nolan Street from 24 February. Drivers will turn from Nolan Street into the new internal road to access the three-level car park. The Lydiard Street North entrance will not be used to access the car park until the redevelopment of the rest of the precinct is complete in late 2020.

Can I still park in the gravel area around the Goods Shed after 24 February. The gravel area where drivers currently park is not an officially designated parking area and will become a construction zone so it will be fenced off and no longer accessible to the public. Fences will be in place shortly after the new car park opens and signs will redirect drivers to the new car park.

Will there be traffic lights at the Nolan street entry into the station precinct? At the time of the car park opening, the intersection will be controlled with a stop sign for all traffic travelling from the internal road onto Nolan Street. Traffic lights will be installed as part of the bus interchange development and will be in operation once buses start using the new interchange. Customer service staff will be on hand to assist pedestrian and traffic movements on the day of the car park opening.

How do I get from the new car park to the railway platforms? Access to the Station from the ground floor of the carpark is via the covered walkway. This walkway leads to the railway overpass and platforms.

How long can I park in the new car park and is it free? The car park is free all day for commuters.

Where do I find the accessible car spaces? There are eight accessible car spaces, with two located on the basement level and six on ground level. This is an increase in the number of accessible spaces currently available for commuters.

What are the safety features of the new car park? The new car park features CCTV cameras for increased safety and is well lit across all levels of the car park.

How do pedestrians walking from Soldiers Hill access the railway station? Pedestrians may walk south along Lydiard Street North to the station or they may walk through the precinct along the pedestrian path adjacent the new internal road. This footpath leads to the covered walkway and the overpass to the rail platforms.

Next steps Once the car park is operational and stage one of the Ballarat Station Precinct Redevelopment is complete, work will commence on stage two.

Fencing will be erected around the construction zone to make way for conservation works to the Goods Shed and the construction of the Hotel.

Work will commence on the new bus interchange early in 2019.
