MESSAGE FROM FR. RICK
Dear Friends,
Over the past few weeks many parishioners have been pointing out and highlighting what is becoming obvious: the chapel needs to be painted. The paint is beginning to peel and chip in many areas- especially the ceiling and the sanctuary. Everyone needs to know that in order to repair the inside we must repair the outside. The chapel was built as the first church on our property in 1906. There has been very little repairs or renovations done to the chapel since it was built- 114 years ago! The roof is still the original and the bricks have never been pointed – including the chimney! It’s amazing that we have gone this long without any major damage on the inside. The workmanship 114 years ago was a better quality than we have today – this is for sure! We recently requested architects to come up with the work required to renovate the exterior of the chapel and the total costs: it was about 1.8 million dollars. I am confident that we will be able to do this- but we need to wait about two years. We are still paying the loan used to renovate our main church. The loan was 3.3 million – today we owe 1.3 million. Unfortunately, we need to do some major renovation of our school building – Judge Street. This work will begin sometime in May and last until the end of the summer. The cost of the school renovation will be 1.1 million dollars! We will need to take an additional loan to help us with this massive cost.
It is my hope that we can have a temporary repair and “paint touch -up” inside the chapel and have the work completed for Easter. Recently, a family generously donated $1000 toward the chapel repairs. We will need to raise more. On the weekend on March 7/8 our second collection will be for the chapel repair. We will need to raise $15,000 to $20,000 to do a good job. It will only be a temporary solution but since it’s the chapel we want it to look beautiful. I will be asking everyone’s generosity in this special collection.
I’m happy to keep you updated on things happening in our parish. I will soon be meeting with our Parish Finance Committee to review with them all the details of these plans. Let’s continue to pray for each other and our wonderful parish. Fr Rick
Queridos amigos, Durante las últimas semanas, muchos feligreses han estado señalando y destacando lo que se está volviendo obvio: la capilla necesita ser pintada. La pintura está empezando a desprenderse en muchas áreas, especialmente en el techo y el santuario. Todos deben saber que para reparar el interior debemos reparar el exterior. La capilla fue construida como la primera iglesia en nuestra propiedad en 1906. Se han realizado muy pocas reparaciones o renovaciones a la capilla desde que fue construida, ¡hace 114 años! NEED A LETTER FROM
YOUR CHURCH? In order to give letters of recommendation,
letters attesting to character, sponsor certificates, and other documents that may
have legal or religious purposes, it is required that persons requesting those
documents be registered and be active members of Saint Bartholomew Parish
at least three months prior to your request. We can not provide any of these documents to people not
registered in the parish.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION There are two times every Saturday for
confessions in the main church: 4 pm and 6:30 pm. Also Thursday at 6:30pm in the
Chapel. We now have two priests assigned during these times to make it convenient and
less time to wait. Please do your part…. come as close as possible to these confession times. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity
of God’s mercy and love.

ST. BART’S CATHOLIC ACADEMY CALENDAR RAFFLE Dear Parishioners, As part of a new creative way for our school to raise funds, we will be initiating the new calendar raffle drive for 2020. This gives participants a chance to win a monetary prize! How it works: •Every calendar raffle ticket is $10 each
•Please stop by the school office (red doors on 43 Av) to fill out the bottom portion of the ticket and it is entered in to our raffle giving the purchaser 31 chances to win.
•Every day in the month of March a ticket will be drawn and the person will win the monetary prize that matches the day it was drawn for. We will announce a winner every day in March and on Fridays we will announce the winners for the weekend. We will also list the names of the winners in the parish bulletin each week. Last day to buy a tickets is February 28th!
