Press Release

Playtime Tokyo just keeps growing!

The latest trade fair, the 12th edition for the japanese market, took place between the 24th and 26th february and it was a great success. More than 220 japanese and international brands gathered at the Belle Salle Shibuya Garden to present their fall/winter 2015/216 collections to professionals on a quest for new

and exceptional merchandise. Although the number of brands remains stable, the total surface for the fair grew by 20% which reflects the exhibitors’ sustained confidence in the Japanese market. With its selection of children’s fashion, accessories, layette, maternity and decor, Playtime Tokyo offered visitors a global and varied vision of what is new in the sector, which was completed this season by a brand new space dedicated to design objects for children: ‘Playtime meets Kodomono’. There, 7 exhibitors presented, in a stylish setting, limited editions, mini collections and one-of-a-kind products. Thanks to the success of this space, it will be expanded next summer to reinforce the trade fair’s design offer. Japan, Italy, Great Britain, France, USA, Sweden, Australia, Taiwan, Portugal, Iceland, India, Denmark… today’s most attractive international brands were present at Playtime Tokyo for this professional event that is now a “must” in Japan for the children’s universe.

For 32% of the brands, this was their first time participating in the fair, whose targeted concept and real enthusiasm captured the interest of the sector’s professionals (buyers, agents and distributors). With 2429 visitors over 3 days, the 12th edition of Playtime Tokyo hit a new record! A dual increase over the winter 2014 edition (+5%) as well as that of last summer (+12%).

The main buyers were present

(department stores and multi-brand shops), as was the cream of the specialised press (Senken, Apparel Web, Vogue Japan, ELLE, Nina’s, Madame Figaro Japon, FQ Japan, Cocomag, Tocotoco, …). Among them, the Milk Japan team combed through the fair to uncover the winners of their Winter 2015 awards: Tinycottons landed the Best Fashion prize and Bobo Choses won the Editor’s Choice award. In the 3 trend spaces, visitors discovered the season’s main trends via silhouettes selected and composed of exhibitors’ collections. A concentra- tion of trends that was enriched and “illustrated” by 3 artists: Masayuki Yoshida, Daisuke Takahashi and Kim Songhe. Also present at Playtime Tokyo, Playologie, the first online trade fair for the children’s and maternity universes, welcomed buyers and exhibitors for a complete visit of the site’s second version; a super-simple interface and extremely complete functions for a tool that has become indispen- sable, and free access for buyers.
