Tereza* is a stay-at-home mom of five children without medical insurance. She applied for the insurance with the help of Catholic Charities. It’s a work in progress, but she appreciates the case manager’s dedication. Tereza’s children received dental insurance and emergency medical care in less than two weeks. Tereza says, “The case managers are very helpful;

sometimes people don’t know where to go. I got help as soon as I got here.” Catholic Charities is dedicated to helping people access the medical care they need.

Catholic Charities agencies administered 341,592 health services in 2014 that helped individuals access health insurance and other health-related services. To learn more, please visit www.CatholicCharitiesUSA.org *Name changed to protect privacy

Habitat for Humanity Sarasota is ‘Growing Forward’

When Habitat for Humanity Sarasota Inc. was founded in 1985, the founders believed that decent housing was the most important need in this community. Today, that is still true.

Habitat's Mission is “to partner with God and community to provide decent affordable housing for people in need so that they may build better lives for their families.” Every Habitat home is built by volunteers and funded by private donations. Every donation is tax-deductible and 100% of the donation is spent on the home.

This year, Habitat hopes to expand the number of homes under construction, providing many local families an opportunity to achieve home ownership. We invite St. Thomas More members to sign up to volunteer or donate, sponsor a home, learn about becoming a homeowner, and support your city's economy.

Watch our progress as we strive to build affordable homes and mixed-income communities to meet the social needs of our residents, to create a more sustainable Sarasota. Habitat Sarasota could not fulfill its mission without the volunteer and financial support of organizations like yours. We hope you consider joining our loyal group of sponsors who continue to make this happen.

Team Builds

Working on a Habitat for Humanity Sarasota project is a great way to bring members of the church together to get to know one another, focus on teamwork, and serve the community while having a great time. This Team Build opportunity has been extremely popular and successful. We have partnered with a number of corporate groups, church groups, and service groups who have come together to support the mission of Habitat and provide an opportunity for a family to become homeowners. For more information on Team Build sponsorship levels, or to submit an application for your group, see the Team Build webpage at www.habitatsrq.org.

St. Thomas More Church parishioner Ray Porter is the new Habitat volunteer recruiter, and is happy to provide more information about the organization and its worthwhile mission. Email him at [email protected], or call 941-487-5529.
