Why believe?He said to them,

“Surely you will quote me this proverb, ‘Physician, cure yourself,’ and say, ‘Do here in your native place the things

that we heard were done in Capernaum”Lk 4:23

The value of art is not primarily economic. Friendship is never measured in weight or fails, is not worth it being appreciated in terms of advantages and profits.

In this same perspective we should analyze Faith, it leads us to a higher level of our own existence, but we can not classify it as a tool to achieve immediate and visible profits.

In their way back to Nazareth, Jesus preserve in his friends an interest in his miracles, they want him to make them in his hometown, but the Lord explains that his mission goes beyond these signs favoring a few, but announce salvation to all.

The people of Nazareth were angry at the snub of the Master, and try to throw him down headlong by a nearby ravine to the village. They were hoping to have Him for his own use, they thought Jesus’ mission in a utilitarian sense. The same as many baptized today, that have given the same sense to faith.

Many of us pray and use the sacraments as means to put God at our command. For a moment we touch the sacred, but in search of material advantages. So what good is believing?

Everything could begin the day in which we see that we are not the owners of this world, not even to our own history; There are physical laws that we can not handle and we rarely reach. We realized then that we are just tiny beings from an infinite world, visible and invisible facing Who created it.

Every friendship, if it is positive and strong, transforms those who love, that is faith. Leon Bloy tells us that every man has in his heart corners that do not exist until the pain gets there. Same thing with faith, it expands our personal geography to make us fully human, yet at the same time fulfilled of God. Besides faith explains, although coded language, those painful mysteries, the future and death.

Between a believer and the unbeliever is a distance of light years, but God loves us all and wants us to maintain a creative and stable friendship with Him. However, those who do not believe are walking through this world missing many wonders.

Have a nice weekend!

Lucas 4:23
