quickly.

The Art Bazaar on March 23rd is limited to

This sale and show is at Santini Plaza. Last year

organization we count on each other to keep

FMBAA successful and a good experience for

everyone. This year we have had several 'new'

members step up and into Chairmanship positions.

Even if you don't participate in one of our Shows,

come and help with receiving, take down & hanging

paintings, prepare the gallery & provide food for the

public for Openings & Gallery Talk events. If you

like to read the local news – become the Historian

for the year. If you are an organizer -- help with one

of our Committees and step up. Tuesdays and

Wednesdays are open paint days at the gallery.

Come paint with fellow artists. You'll be glad you

did! Joan Zeoli, President

At the February 13th Potluck members will be asked to

vote on the following slate of candidates for the Board.

It is important that we have a quorum of 26 members to

elect the Board so please plan to attend.

Candidates for the Board:

George Buelow 2 years Director

Ted Staub 2 years Director

Mary Klunk 2 years Director

Avis Schmitz 2 more years Director

Mary Chaikowsky 2 more years Director

Neil Walling 2 more years Director

The balance of the board will be Joan Zeoli, Floyd

Lawrence, Julie Nusbaum, Kay Cowan, and Kathryn

Miller.

Art Bazaar at Santini Plaza The Art Bazaar at Santini Plaza will be held on March

23, 2014 from 9 am to 3 pm. Sign up now at the gallery

for one of the 25 spaces available for you to sell your

wonderful art work. The spaces measure approximately

4 x 12 feet. You must be present and man your own

space. The entry fee is $20 payable upon sign-up.

We will have a central check out with the credit

card machine in place. However, this year each artist

will receive a receipt book and will fill out receipts for

clients to take to the central checkout. The minimum sale

price for each item is $5 (bundle items if necessary). The

artist will release the art work when shown the “paid”

receipt by the client. See details at the gallery.

Remember that sales benefit the FMBAA scholarship

fund.

Floyd Lawrence, Art Bazaar chair

Christmas Pot Luck – Our Christmas Potluck

was fun and the food was yummy. We had a wonderful

team of helpers pulled together by President Joan Zeoli,

Sharon Hegstrom, Louise Davis, Donna Bergeron,

Michele & George Buelow, Avis Schmitz, Kathleen

Flicek, Kay Cowan, Gretchen Johnson and Corky

Condon. Mary Chaikowsky and her son, Matt, came in

for the finish with Matt being an expert carver of the

ham, and dressing the platters with all the fine touches

of a great chef. Seventy-five guests attended the affair,

and everyone was ready for a party and seemed to have

a good time.

Penny Fox played music on her keyboard adding

a festive air to the occasion. The clean-up folks were

awesome too, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Thanks to all who helped in any way to make the

evening a nice event.

Art on the Boulevard

Sixteen artists participated in Art on the Boulevard

at Century 21 Tripower Realty on November 17th.

Yes, that was the same day that 1500 bikers passed

by on Estero Blvd.

Art Divine – lots of great art but… The numbers were down from 2012: fewer artists

(27 vs. 35), half the sales (34 vs. 71), half the

revenue ($2435 vs. $5212), fewer show days (14 vs.

38 days), and fewer minis sold (28 vs. 83). Easy

math! 2

Open House was Crafty Event

The Board hosted an Open House at the gallery on Friday, January 3rd. Members and art lovers were welcomed by President Joan Zeoli. Thank you to the Board for providing coffee and goodies.

The “Sharing our Creativity” displays by members

included bracelets and other objects made of

paper by Sue Pink, photographs by Lenore Bandler,

special papers by Laraine Centineo, and a new

book (Cat Skills) illustrated by Neil Walling. Lynne

Wesolowski demonstrated the use of alcohol inks

to paint on tiles.

Artist Profile –Sue Pink

Sue Pink grew up under the art influence of her

mother who was a commercial artist in the Fort

Lauderdale, FL area. There was no shortage of

wonderful art supplies to explore. After a career in

education Sue pursued her interest in art by taking

classes first with local instructors, and later by

enrolling in workshops taught by leading national

instructors including Peter Spataro. These

workshops increased her interest in abstract art and

process.

”Sue says “working in the abstract manner

has allowed me to emotionally tie my work to the

viewer. Abstract art has also enabled me to focus

on composition.” Color and texture are major

elements in her work. We know Sue for her muted

palette. Can you see her process? Sue uses gesso

as a resist and pulls color from below. This allows

the viewer to see the “history” of the work. Sue

says always use high quality paint (watercolor and

acrylic) and high quality 100% cotton rag paper.

Recently Sue has been working on a series of works

depicting time as a theme.

Last fall Sue was a “demo” instructor at the

Florida Watercolor Society Annual Convention.

Sue recommends this convention to all. Sue is a

signature member of the National Watercolor

Society, Southern Watercolor Society, Florida

Watercolor Society, Georgia Watercolor Society,

Texas Watercolor Society, Tallahassee Watercolor

Society, elected to the Florida Artist Group, and an

associate member of the American Watercolor

Society. View Sue’s work on line at

www.suepink.com .

Noteworthy ---A reminder to all: please clean tables after painting,

use plastic covers, and cover the floor if throwing paint.

Housekeeping is a responsibility of all members. The

kitchen sink should not be used for any painting activity.

Use the storeroom sink or outside disposal areas as

appropriate. All counter areas should be kept clear. The

storeroom is for FMBAA storage. Do not place personal

items in the storeroom. Pick up your paintings promptly

at the close of a show.

---Gallery Sitting. Please remember that artists

entering ANY SHOW are expected to gallery sit

unless hardship is shown. Gallery sitters are an

important part of our member run FMBAA and

especially to have our gallery open during our

shows. Connie Donfrancisco is gallery sitter chair

for February and Donna Bergeron for March. TIP:

New members might want to select a Tuesday or

Wednesday to gallery sit as there will be painters in

the gallery these days to help answer questions.

You need to make sure you are aware of the

operations of the desk, reference book, how to fill

out a receipt (important to fill out ALL the blanks)

and use the charge machine, add tax to the sales,

and where to find help if needed. Also how to find

information on the classes and workshops, forms for

membership, shows and workshops. There is a

Gallery Sitter’s Instruction Book at the desk. Please

review it each time you "sit".

--New Easels. Ten easels have been purchased for use by artists painting in the gallery. Keep them clean and

store them properly.

Paint the Beach 2014!

We are beginning to plan for the next PTB

festival during the week Nov. 3-9 next fall. Save

the date and plan to participate and help us with

this terrific event. It gets bigger and better each

year as the word spreads among artists and

patrons.

The 2013 PTB festival was a tremendous success

with 60 participating artists. It brought in over

$6000 thanks to a lot of helpers and chairmen

who organized their facet of the event and was a

great experience for those participating. The

chairmen have agreed to chair their committees

again...thank you so much. But we need some

members to step up and help in a few more areas.

We need a donations for the painting raffle, one

from each painting group, chairman of

sponsorship who will work with Michele and

someone who is willing to train with Michele to

take over as overall chairman for the following

year and of course volunteers. There are many

ways to help and each job is important to the

whole. Please let me know if you can step up and

become involved with this project. We need

you!! Michele Buelow
