Art Bazaar at Santini Plaza
The Art Bazaar at Santini Plaza will be held on
March 22, 2015 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Sign up now
at the gallery for one of the 25 spaces available for
you to sell your wonderful art work. The spaces
measure approximately 4 x 12 feet. You must be
present to man your own space. The entry fee is $20
payable upon sign-up.
We are going to have a couple of changes over what
we did last year. This year you can sell prints if you
choose. The prints must be clearly labeled that they
are prints and not originals. We don’t want people
to be confused and they think the prints are
originals.
We will still have a central checkout with a credit
card machine in place, but you can handle your own
sales if you choose. If you choose to do this, you
must keep track of your sales (20% of sales will be
used for our FMBAA scholarship fund). There will
be an informational instruction sheet available when
you sign up. Please provide your e-mail address on
the sign-up sheet as I will be using this method to
keep you up-dated before the sale. Floyd
Lawrence, Art Bazaar chair. (cell 207-754-0963)
Art Divine – lots of great art …
The gallery was filled with beautiful framed and bagged
art. Penny Fox expertly managed the receiving. Bea
Pappas, event chair, took charge of the hanging and
hanging issues with the assistance of Bill Pappas. No
small feat for so much art. Sales ($2617) were slightly
above last year.
Open House Event Held Jan 16
The Board hosted an Open House at the gallery on Friday, January 16th. Members and art lovers were welcomed by Vice-President Floyd Lawrence. Kevin D. Tobin, Jr. returned for a 90 minute Acrylic lecture/ demo. Thank you to the Board for providing coffee and goodies. Joan Zeoli, FMBAA President

Paint the Beach 2015!
We are beginning to plan for the next PTB festival
during the week Nov. 2-8 next fall. Save the date
and plan to participate and help us with this terrific
event. It gets bigger and better each year as the
word spreads among artists and patrons.
The 2014 PTB festival was a tremendous success
with 60 participating artists. It brought in over
$6000 thanks to a lot of helpers and chairmen who
organized their facet of the event and was a great
experience for those participating. The chairmen
have agreed to chair their committees again...thank
you so much. But we need some members to step
up and help in a few more areas. We need donations
for the painting raffle, one from each painting
group, chairman of sponsorship who will work with
Michele and someone who is willing to train with
Michele to take over as overall chairman for the
following year and of course volunteers. There are
many ways to help and each job is important to the
whole. Please let me know if you can step up and
become involved with this project. We need you!!
Michele Buelow

Artist Profile: Anne Kittel
Anne Kittel says her first influential teacher was her mother who kept her well stocked with art supplies and lots of encouragement. While living in Providence, RI, Anne took art classes at the Rhode Island School of Design during her school years. After graduation she studied fashion design at the Traphagen School in New York City. Anne became a full time artist upon moving to Fort Myers in 1979, and continued her studies in workshops taught by visiting famous artists. Anne first got into teaching art when she was asked to substitute teach at the Cape Coral Art League, filling in for Babs Bowers teaching a week-long workshop and then teaching a weekly class for a season. Later she was invited to teach at BIG ARTS where she has been teaching since 2005. In 2009 she led a week long workshop for Art Escape in Tampa. In 2011 Anne conducted a workshop on Fractured Forms and Shattered Images for the Jacksonville Watercolor Society. Anne says “I strive with my work to go in new directions and last year I joined the International Society of Experimental Painters (ISEA) and had a painting accepted in their 2013 exhibition.” Anne has achieved signature membership in Florida Watercolor Society. Anne says “the first time I entered a painting in a FWS show I won a prize.” Anne is also a signature member of the Georgia Watercolor Society, the Southern Watercolor Society, the Tallahassee Watercolor Society and Watercolor West. Locally, she is a member of Fort Myers Beach Art Association, the
Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, the Sanibel-Captiva Art League, and BIGARTS Currently Anne’s paintings may be seen at Hirdie Girdie Art Gallery, Sanibel, and on line at www.hirdiegirdie.com .
Noteworthy ---A reminder to all: please clean tables after painting,
use plastic covers, and cover the floor if throwing paint.
Housekeeping is a responsibility of all members. The
kitchen sink should not be used for any painting activity.
Follow instructions for cleaning of the kitchen counters.
Use the storeroom sink or outside disposal areas as
appropriate. All counter areas should be kept clear. The
storeroom is for FMBAA storage. Do not place personal
items in the storeroom. Pick up your paintings promptly
at the close of a show.
---Gallery Sitting. Please remember that artists
entering ANY SHOW are expected to gallery sit
unless hardship is shown or a patron member.
Gallery sitters are an important part of our
member run FMBAA and especially to have our
gallery open during our shows. Connie
Donfrancisco is gallery sitter chair for February and
Donna Bergeron for March. TIP: New members
might want to select a Tuesday or Wednesday to
gallery sit as there will be painters in the gallery
these days to help answer questions.
You need to make sure you are aware of the operations of the desk, reference book, how to fill out a receipt (important to fill out ALL the blanks) and use the charge machine, add tax to the sales, and where to find help if needed. Also how to find information on the classes and workshops, forms for membership, shows and workshops. There is a Gallery Sitter’s Instruction Book at the desk. Please review it each time you "sit".
Surplus Art Supplies to Sell – place a
note on the bulletin board in the FMBAA Library.
Also expect a notice on an event to sell your
surplus supplies at FMBAA in March.

Anne Abgott: 20 artists attended the Anne
Abgott workshop held November 17-19, 2014. Ten
of the students were FMBAA members. Artists
enjoyed lots of beautiful demonstrations and
brilliant colors. Everyone painted one image a day
selected by Anne and she instructed by
demonstrating small sections of the painting using
her favorite colors. Anne has written a book
“Daring Colors” in which she illustrates her
techniques.

Sue Pink “Abstracting with
Watermedia”
WATERCOLOR and ACRYLIC (all levels)
February 23-26, 2015, four days Sue is an award-winning artist who works abstractly,
which allows her to emotionally tie her work to the
viewer. She begins each work with spontaneity and
immediate content, relating reflections of past
experiences and acquaintances. Color, texture, and
evidence of the history of the painting are major
elements in her work, along with her signature muted
palette. In this workshop Sue will use the most
forgiving mediums that an artist can employ: acrylic
paint, acrylic grounds and watercolor. Sue will guide
the students through the process of watermedia
paintings while encouraging their personal creative
expressions to shine. Emphasis will be on composition
for strong visual impact, color combinations that work,
and originality of subject. There will be demonstrations
of this wide range of media and a sharing of hints for
successful paintings. This method produces complex
surfaces that are rich in texture, value, contrast and
color intensities.
