Preston Lovinggood, Shadow SongsEarlier this year, Preston Lovinggood released his debut solo work, Sun Songs. Unknown to most was the parallelmusical plane that five of those tracks had already been living in. Enter Shadow Songs. Over the course of a year,Preston recorded with producer/engineer Darrell Thorp (Beck, Radiohead). While partially recorded inBirmingham, sessions in Los Angeles yielded him a freedom with his music that couldn’t be found in the shacklesof life at home. Along with Thorp and an entourage of new musicians, Preston’s songs were re-imagined and sixnew tracks written. If Sun Songs can be likened to an up-close-and-personal documentary, then Shadow Songs isits’ equally impressive wide-screen sibling.

Since 1994,PUSA has been spreading their skewed, joyous brand of pop to audiences the world over. PUSA has no idea wherethis album came from. As “full-time part-timers”, PUSA had thought themselves to be “post album”, enjoying arelaxed and limited touring schedule combined with liberal hammock time. When they booked two days with theirproducer last October; there were no expectations, and no material other than singer Chris Ballew’s notebook.Things got out of hand, and a month later, Kudos was tracked. The album is a happy mix of old, new, and brandspanking new, that should hit right at the soft tissue of fans old and new. Ok, mostly old, but still it’s a funlisten and should eventually be purchased by everyone on the planet.
