Great Things Happening at Northwood
Crazy Hair Day!
Staff and students showed up with crazy hairdos: pink wigs, coloured spikes, funny appendages, pipe-cleaner braids and afros! Wow! It was quite the display. Way to go Northwood on another successful Spirit Day.
In from the Cold …
Northwood staff and students have pulled together to brave the coldest days yet this winter. Staff went the extra mile to support one another during indoor routines—be they in the morning, or during nutrition breaks. Students were well behaved and enjoyed various activities during indoor recesses like dance aerobics, sports activities, and feature film shorts in the library. Everyone‘s got fingers crossed for news of an early spring on
KG Scientist in the Classroom—Magnets! The grade 4's were fortunate enough to have the pleasure of Winsome Murray (from Scientist In the School) in their classes to learn about magnets. Each class had a half day to explore the properties of magnets. They were able to participate in many fun experiments. They made magnetic fishing rods, built with magnetic structures, and explored how magnets behave around water. Many of our parents came in to help out and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience.
Valentine Cookie Sales
Student Council, in conjunction with School Council, will be selling Valentine Cookies on Feb. 9, 10, 12, & 13. These delicious treats will be sold for $1.00 each. Students will be able to buy the cookies (only 1 per student per day) during the eating time of their nutrition breaks. We appreciate your support with our school fundraising Valentine Cookies Sale.

Extended-day program for kindergarten students
Families have the option of enrolling their child in before and after-school programs developed by the Ministry of Education to complement the kindergarten program. These programs are run by qualified, experienced staff from our childcare partners. At registration, we will ask families to tell us whether they are interested in the extended-day programs. The programs can only run if there is enough interest among families.
Registering students with special needs
Students who have a demonstrated developmental disability, physical disability, hearing or vision loss or ASD/PDD diagnosis may require specialized support in the school setting.
The Peel board's Special Education Support Services department looks forward to working with families as planning for their child's entry to school in September begins. For information about this planning process, call 905-890-1010/1-800-668-1146 ext. 2315.
