Recently the choice of guest ales have been from a top quality list, the options being either Bass, Marston’s Pedigree, St Austell Brewery’s Tribute, Shepherd Neame’s Spitfire, Thwaite’s Lancaster Bomber, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Wadworth 6X! That has been me sorted recently, although maybe enjoyed myself too much on one occasion over the Christmas period, so I must finish the paragraph with ‘Please drink responsibly’! …Since Issue 22 Sam Green (24th Jan 1927 – 18th Feb 2015) June, Jeff, Andy and Nick would like to thank everyone for all the lovely cards and kind messages. Many thanks to Lotus Care District Nurses and Dr Collins for their help and support in the past year and, of course, to Rev Peter Lister for a lovely service. ‘Run Forrest Run’ There are a growing number of athletic types amongst the Club membership, and after a specific event, be it the recent Regency Run or the local Wolf Run the Club fills up with everybody in the respective ‘uniform’ of event t-shirts, quenching their thirst. Congratulations to the many that took part in the Regency Run around Leamington in mid-April. Not content with just 10k Abi Archer and Steve Malin successfully completed their first marathons, both raising money for charity in the process. Abi ran the London Marathon in 4hrs 48min and raised over £2100 for St John Ambulance. However, you can still donate to the cause, www.justgiving.com/abiarchermarathon will still be ‘live’ for a short period of time. While Steve completed the Shakespeare Marathon in 4hrs 56min, raising over £1,400 for a charity very close to his heart, SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity) running with their logo on his top and with the names ‘Cameron’ and ‘Harvey’, the boys Mandy and Steve lost to stillbirth. Rich Bartlett completed his second marathon at Milton Keynes, although his first in good health, beating last year’s effort by 15 minutes, posting a time of 4hrs 17mins. Kerry Marron’s 50 th Happy Birthday to Kerry, congratulations on reaching this milestone, I am a little disappointed that I got there first though! Fantastic night was had by all, the Big Wednesday Band did an excellent job of drowning Kerry’s singing out, although they could do nothing about it whilst they were packing their kit away, I believe in record time as well! Knowing full well what was going to happen, I did try and get a supply of ear plugs prior to the party, but all to no avail, unfortunately my apologies to all those that were forced to endure the screeching singing. Allegedly the Cats Protection League’s emergency response team were on the way at one stage! El Presidente’s new role! Congratulations to Stan Sabin, who now has the title to go with his ripe old age and looks, daughter Karina delivered his first grandchild on 27 th April. IN THE PIPELINEBig Al’s Golf Day and Band Night – 24th MayThe 17th running of Big Al’s Golf Day takes placetowards the end of May, on this occasion the Daywill be raising money for The Limes Care Home,Stratford upon Avon (The Limes provideaffordable, high quality care to older people andpeople living with dementia). Just £35 per playergets you a round of golf at Newbold Comyn andfood from the BBQ for yourself and family back atthe Club afterwards. Following the BBQProfessor Rockska will be providing the livemusic later into the evening with their selectionof music from Madness, The Beat, Bad Manners,Selector and The Specials.

Race Night in aid of Heart of Radford - 29th MayFollowing the success of the Quiz night our nextfund raising event will be the Race Night with aTwist!! This is a family night out which will be heldat Radford Semele Sports and Social Club on29th May 2015. First race will start at 7.30pm. Allproceeds will go to the ‘Heart of Radford Semele’

Can we encourage everyone to come along andhave some fun, win some prizes? Doing this youwill help grow the funds of the Heart of RadfordSemele.

Regulars (Groups and Teams)Premiership Super 7’sSince the start of the last football season we havea weekly competition in which members have thepossibility of taking a cash prize by justsuccessfully predicting the outcome (home Win,Lose or Draw) of seven Premiership matches. Lastseason one of the largest pots was approximately£300, but this season has seen that total eclipsedand to date the main pot now stands at over£1,000! The interest has now allowed us to startbuilding a second pot to keep interest in the eventof the main prize being won. Just £1 per go forthe chance to win over £1000!

Sunday BingoA number of ladies use the TV Room on Sundayevenings for several rounds of Bingo between 7pm– 9pm. Just £5 buys 6 books, with a ‘flyer’ for thefinal game, all giving you the chance to win aselection of grocery prizes. A relaxed evening andthe chance for a sociable chat while thehusband/family is left to do the washing-up fromthe Sunday roast.

Every Tuesday is a Poker NightOn Tuesday evenings, from 8pm a group of cardplayers use the Club for an evening of Poker in theTV Room. The group play for points and at the endof each month the top 2 with the most points areawarded a cash prize. Anybody wishing to join thegroup can just pop down and try their hand,sometimes there are just four or five people aroundthe table, other times we may have to think ofgetting the second table out.

Seniorsʼ Group – moving to ThursdayʼsThe Club opens its doors for the Seniors’ Group onthe first Thursday of each month to enjoy thefacilities and have a chat without the jukebox orlarge screen being used. Anybody wishing to joincan come down between Midday – 2pm on theThursday and have a chat with their fellow villagers.

ʻServingʼ the Community HallIf you’re planning a function in the Community Halland require bar facilities, why not consider usingthe Club’s instead of organising a temporary bar tobe set-up in the Hall? It just needs somebody tobe a member of the Club and allow us a little timeto organise the special licence, 10 working days,the only charge being a 50p signing-in fee, perguest who are not members.

Big Screen Sport ActionThe Club has one of the largest screens in the areato watch sport on and with two Sky boxes,including BT Sport, and a second large screenmonitor in the TV Room there are plenty ofopportunities to watch some of the major sportingevents, at the Club. Whilst the football season iscoming to a close very soon there are still manyevents that may be screened. Below gives a quickglance at the options

2014/15 ROYAL BRITISH LEGION POPPYAPPEAL UPDATEAs at 22 April the Appeal total for Radford stoodat £2264. This is £93 more than the initialcollection total of £2171, which was notified inDecember 2014.£25 was received for the purchase of a wreathand £68 was generously donated by patrons ofthe Sports and Social Club, via the all year roundcollecting bottle which resides on the bar.The £68 also included a donation of £5 from theClub’s newest Life Member in lieu of not havingto pay his membership this year. Radford Semele FC Division 2 Championsand Philip Parker Division 2 Cup Champions

Radford Semele FChas had instantsuccess in returning tothe top flight of theLeamington & DistrictFootball League afterhaving a unbeatenseason in Division Two.

They have already succeeded in winning theirsecond trophy of the season when they beatWestlea Wanderers Reserves 4-1 in the PhillipParker Division Two League Cup. They are currentlyon for the quadruple, as they have two remainingcup finals in the upcoming weeks and have set theirsights on bringing home all four trophies this year.Huge congratulations to David Burns and JudithClarke on the season and we will have our fingersand toes crossed for the two remaining games.

Radford support ‘The Heart of Radford Semele’It has now been several months since weintroduced our plight to you, as “The Heart ofRadford Semele”. Firstly we’d like to just say abig Thank You to everyone in the village for thecontinued support and interest.Thank you also to Rob Spall and the RadfordSemele Sports and Social Club for helping usraise £225 on our first fund raising event. TheQuiz night was a great successWe’d also like to thank Mrs Green for the kinddonation in memory of her husband, Sam Greenfor £20.00. We have also received a furtherdonation from Stagecraft Youth Group of £158We have risen so far in total: £403.61

FANTASTIC news is we have now had our firstAED machine brought to the village. This haskindly been donated by West MidlandsAmbulance Service. The local shop has given noless than amazing support to this project. Theyhave generously offered to temporarily house theAED in their premises during shop opening hoursinitially. This will be displayed clearly in the shopwindow. When sufficient funds have been raisedto purchase a permanent cabinet, this will bemounted outside the local shop, ensuring 24houraccess to be achieved for the village.

Within the next coming weeks we will be deliveringleaflets to all residents in the village outlining howyou can support the project both financially andas a volunteer. This leaflet will include an emailaddress for people to contact the Heart of RadfordSemele so further information can be obtained andany questions can be submitted to us. The next fund raising event will be a Race Nightwith a Twist on the 29th May at the Club.
