At 26 years, 129 days, Felix became the
youngest pitcher to throw a perect
game since Mike Witt (24.072) in 1984.
The perect game produced a game score (Bill James stat calculating a pitcher’s
dominance) o 99…it was the 9th time in the DH era that an AL pitcher recorded
score that high in a 9-inning game, and the 4th-highest in any perect game.
Felix recorded 12 strikeouts in the perect game, the 4th-most in
a perect game trailing 14 by Sandy Kouax (1965) and Matt
Cain (2012) and 13 by Randy Johnson (2004)…it
was the 4th game this season in which Felix
struck out 12+ batters, ater entering
the 2012 season with our 12+
strikeout games in his career.
The 1-0 victory marked Felix’s third
1-0 shutout o the season (thru Aug.
15), setting a Mariners single-season
record and tying the Mariners career
record…he became the rst pitcher
since Bob Ojeda (NYM) in 1988 to
record a trio o 1-0 shutouts.
