Sitting beautifully in over an acre of level gardens and
enjoying wonderful views in all directions this
delightful 3 double bedroomed detached stone built
bungalow is truly unique.
Originally the recreation hall for the Elterwater
Gunpowder Works, Fells is now a delightful home
with a superb sitting room, kitchen, dining room, 3
double bedrooms plus a fourth occasional bedroom,
bathroom, W.C., garden room, double garage and a
variety of stores and outbuildings all quietly placed
here where the village meets the common - simply
perfect.

Description It is many years now since Elterwater had its
Gunpowder Works which began operating in around 1824 and
served the mining industry across the whole country. At its peak a
great number were employed locally and they were no doubt
royally entertained at the recreational hall in the village. It is
perhaps hard now to identify that same building as being Fells, but
that is the origin of this very welcoming home. It is perhaps not so
difficult to envisage the 19th Century workers enjoying a game of
bowls on the lovely level lawns that make up large sections of the
beautiful gardens. The area itself must have changed almost
beyond recognition to a degree since those industrious times. One
thing that will not have changed however are the magnificent
views which are as idyllic today as they must have been nearly 200
years ago.
This attractive stone and slate built bungalow has windows in all
elevations to take full advantage of those views and is both bright
and spacious enough for a growing family to enjoy as a permanent
home but would also be perfect as a wonderful high quality
holiday let or lock up and leave weekend retreat here at the
mouth of the Langdale Valley in the very heart of the Lake District
National Park.
Whilst the accommodation might now stand a little updating, and
does offer scope for further enhancement, it is well balanced and
includes an entrance porch, hallway, a wonderful large sitting
room (probably the original dance hall or meeting room), a kitchen
and a separate dining room, which would no doubt readily
combine to provide a very fashionable family kitchen, 3 double
bedrooms, a bathroom and a separate W.C. There is a first floor
occasional bedroom accessed via an external spiral staircase above
the double garage which makes the perfect den. There is obvious
potential to perhaps convert the double garage and link it to this
first floor internally if desired and subject to any necessary
consents. There is a garden room as well as a variety of stores, an
under croft and a green house. The wonderful gardens extend to
approximately 1.3 acres and are an absolute delight.
