W E L C O M E T O T H E 2 0 1 0 - 2 0 11 S E A S O N
Dear Friends,
Welcome to a new season at the Ferst Center. This season will mark my rst year o programminga year that intensies our ocus and engages newand existing communities.
When I came to the Ferst Center I noticed thatcontemporary dance and jazz audiences haddeveloped almost organically to be the anchors othe season. I saw an opportunity to bring those two
genres to a new level. I also ound it interesting thatthese perorming arts are genuinely and uniquelyAmericantheir roots are deep in the culturallandscape that we as Americans cherishthey arebold, adventurous and complex.
I am proud that we have sought to dene ourprogramming in a way that is uniquely Georgia Techengaging artists that simultaneously engage the
campus community and the greater Atlanta community.Programs such as Dance Dialogues and Jazz Connect, which create opportunities or deeper audienceinteraction, are part o how we want to go beyondthe perormance. In addition, our new residencyprogram, ARTech, will allow us to share the year-long creative process o the very amazing youngchoreographer Jonah Bokaer.
I hope that you have the opportunityto dig deeper into one type o program orsample the diversity o artists we oer.I invite you to share in the journey thisyear in as many ways as you can.
Cheers,
George A. ThompsonDirector
