According to Chaturvedi, some Congress membersshifted belongings of the Balmikis in their own vehiclesto the new dwelling of two rooms and a kitchen each.Speaking to reporters, Scindia said he had assured theBalmiki family members that he would not leave Shiv-puri until they are relocated properly.

"I will donate Rs 5-5.5 lakh for the construction of per-manent residence for the affected family," he said.Scindia said a chargesheet against the accused was filedin a court on Monday. The former Guna MP also said hehas written to Chief Minister Kamal Nath demandingten bigha (around four-acre) land on lease for theBalmikis along with Rs 50 lakh compensation for eachdeath and a government job to one of the family mem-bers. The two accused, Hakim Yadav and his brotherRameshwar Yadav, were arrested after the incident andbooked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section for mur-der and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Sched-uled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Indian-origin prof..."As a direct result of one of their studies, more than fivemillion Indian children have benefited from effective pro-grammes of remedial tutoring in school," the Academysaid. "Another example is the heavy subsidies for preven-tive healthcare that have been introduced in many coun-tries," it added. Born in 1961 in Mumbai, Bannerjee is aPh.D. from Harvard University and a Professor of Econom-ics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).Born in 1972, Duflo is the second woman and the youngestperson to be awarded the Prize in Economic Sciences, whichwas not among the five original Nobels and was institutedby the Swedish central bank "in memory of Alfred Nobel"in 1969. Also a professor at the MIT, Duflo said she is "hum-bled" by her success in winning the Nobel prize for eco-nomics and hopes it will "inspire many, many otherwomen", the BBC reported. "I hope showing that it is possi-ble for a woman to succeed and be recognised for success isgoing to inspire many, many other women to continue work-ing and many other men to give them the respect they de-serve like every single human being," she said.

The trio's work has focused on the poor communities inIndia and Africa, and their research show which invest-ments in key areas like education and healthcare areworth making and have the biggest impact on the lives ofthe poorest people.

HCL's Nadar tops...Education continues to be the most favourite among thecauses, followed by healthcare, while Infosys co-founderNandan Nilekani, who along with wife Rohini who havespent Rs 346 crore, have chosen "societal platforms" forcharities. There is a tendency among Indians to givemore as they grow older, as per the list, adding the av-erage age of the giver is 64 years. However, as more ex-its happen, new age entrepreneurs are also gettingmore active on the giving side, Shah said, adding theBansals of e-commerce major Flipkart are planning tostart donating via a recently set up family office. Hu-run managing director Anas Rahman Junaid ex-plained that the list limits itself to the amount spentdue to which Premji comes second. The Tatas are ex-cluded as the list focuses on individuals.

Open critique by...In a no-holds-barred attack on the Modi government,Prabhakar alleged: "In economic policy, the party main-ly adopted "Neti Neti (Not this, Not this'), without artic-ulating what was its own Niti (policy)'."

The Congress, expectedly lost no time in attacking thegovernment. Congress's Bengal unit chief Somen Mitratook tweeted: "They may have mocked him for yearswithout having an iota of knowledge how an economyas big as that of India runs, but at the end of the day, DrManmohan Singh and his reform model continues to bethe ultimate benchmark of development for the Indianeconomy." Taking a dig at BJP's appropriation of SardarPatel, Prabhakar also suggested that BJP could portrayNarasimha Rao on the economic side, just the way it hasdone for Patel. He also insinuated, 'a muscular political, nationalist, security platform' was created to compen-sate the deficiency on economic front and a re-electionbid. The BJP has been tight lipped about the entire saga. When contacted, a senior party functionary directed tothe media department, while two BJP spokesperson re-fused to comment on it claiming ignorance.

However, the Congress, which has got an endorsementfrom the spouse of the Union Minister, was in no moodto let go. Pawan Khera of the Congress told IANS:"That's sane advise coming from Mr Parakala Prab-hakar. Anti-Nehru cannot be the raison de etre of theBJP. They do not have there own heroes, nor their owneconomic vision. If they can borrow heroes from Con-gress heroes -- who found the RSS repugnant -- why notborrow its economic policies too?"

As the Indian economy continues to remain "unsta-ble", this open critique of the economic policies by theFinance Minister's husband, just a week before Haryanaand Maharashtra polls has left the BJP searching for ananswer. Prabhakar during his unsuccessful politicalstint had lost an election followed by a bypoll. Later hejoined BJP before leaving the saffron fold to be a part ofthe new political Party 'Prajarajyam' and became itsfounding General Secretary and spokesperson.

However, he has been a person known to ditch andhence held an infamous press briefing in Prajarajyamparty office where he had launched a scathing attack onthe same party he was appearing as a spokesperson of.

In a new twist in the last leg of Ayodhya ti-tle dispute case hearing, the SupremeCourt on Monday directed the UttarPradesh government to provide adequatesecurity to UP Sunni Waqf Board chair-man, Zufar Ahmad Farooqui, after he ap-prehended a threat to his life. Farooqui hadmoved the apex court through SriramPanchu, one of the three-member media-tion panel formed by the courtin order to seek an amiable so-lution to the Ram Janmabhoo-mi-Babri Masjid dispute.

A five-judge bench, headed byChief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, iscurrently hearing the matter.

The Chief Justice at the endof hearing, on the 38th day, flagged the note from Panchuwhere Farooqui apprehended athreat to his life, saying: "UttarPradesh government should provide ade-quate security to him (Farooqui)."

While the Chief Justice was reading outthe note from Panchu, senior advocate Ra-jeev Dhavan, who is leading the argumentsfrom Muslim parties' side, told the benchthat Farooqui faces threat from the UP gov-ernment, and there is allegedly a conspira-cy to get him off the case.

The UP government counsel, who wasalso present in the court, gave assurance tothe top court on the security arrangementsfor Farooqui. According to a counsel fromMuslim side, the UP government was ex-erting pressure on the Sunni Waqf Boardto reach an out of court settlement on thematter. "The Waqf Board is under the stategovernment. The government has the au-

thority to replace the chairman with some-body who follows its orders," said the coun-sel on the condition of anonymity.

The Chief Justice, while sorting the hear-ing schedule, indicated that the court canconclude the arguments in the case on Oc-tober 16, a day ahead of the deadline, andinsisted all counsel to follow the time slotallocated to wrap up their arguments. Thisreaction from court came after Dhavansubmitted he will take two hours on Tues-day to finish his arguments, and the Hindu

urged the court to give them atleast two days to reply.

During the hearing, Dhavantook pot-shots at the NDA gov-ernment at its attempts torewrite history. He vehementlyargued if something was foundbelow the disputed site after ex-cavations, it cannot invalidatethe Babri mosque after 450years. "It is possible for yourlordships to rewrite history....

you will open a Pandora's box. It is an un-tidy exercise. History books might be writ-ten based on your lordships' understanding(of the subject). I don't want that.... Rewrit-ing history when a new government cameinto power in New Delhi," Dhavan con-tended. He further insisted that it is Hinduside proposition that digging must takeplace over 500 mosques which they claimwere built over Hindu temples.

Contesting the argument of adverse pos-session, Dhavan told the court, "When wasthe claim of adverse possession made? Wasit made after 1885 at any point of time? They (Hindu side) have to prove adversepossession. They cannot get away bytelling a few Muslims could not pray at thesite, it is not adverse possession."
