Berkeley Classic On June 24th and 25th the first Men’s Major took place in what turned out to be great weather. The Berkeley Classic is a two man better ball format and we had another full field event with 48 teams competing over the two days. There was some spectacular golf played in both the Championship division and Masters division. The Overall Gross Champions went to the team of Jacob Bayer and Ray Perez with a team total of 126 (18 under par). Shout out to Jacob for shooting back to back 65s on his own ball! The Overall Net Champions went to Andrew Ishoy and Pat Ludeman with rounds of 60 & 68 for a team total of 128 and a narrow one shot victory. In the Masters Division the team of Stewart Barker and Jeff Parks won the Flight with a scorecard playoff after a blistering two day total of 125! Congratulations to our Overall Champions and Flight Winners! A big thank you to everyone who came out to play and we hope to see everyone again for the Member-Member in late July!

Senior Individual StablefordOur Berkeley Seniors played an individual Stableford tournament on Wednesday, June 21st. There were 13 players competing from the White tees. Congratulations to Hugh McGonagle who won by earning 5 points over his quota. Bill Stanhope came in second with Barry Lakas and Rawd McArthur tying for 3rd place. Thank you to everyone who competed on a rainy/windy day!

Superintendent News July 2017

So far this summer is nothing like last summer. It is a beautiful thing to be occupied mowing grass everyday of the week. This is the first year, since I’ve been employed here, that we are actually spraying a growth regulator on tees and fairways to slow the grass down. The new greens mowers are doing great. We are having a little scalping on the greens during the wet weather. Just like anything new, it takes a little time to get everything adjusted correctly. Using these new riding greens mowers is allowing us to complete all the grass mowing during the week. With all the rain we had, if we were still walk mowing, it would be difficult for us to complete our task on time.Let’s keep looking forward to the rain showers, the maintenance staff and I do not want to go through another summer like last year’s drought.

Junior GolfThis year we will have our first Junior Member

Member tournament in recent years. The format is two person teams for 9 holes only. Teams will be put in to flights by age group. The cost is just $10 per player. This is a great way for your child to get out and enjoy a quick round with a friend on a Saturday afternoon! Please come by or give us a call in the golf shop to sign up!

We will have our last Junior Golf Camp of the Summer the week of July 18th, 19th and 20th. Camp runs from 10 AM to 3 PM and costs $150 per child. This is another great way to introduce your child to golf in a relaxed, social setting! You can again give us a call or come by the golf shop to sign up! WGA Member MemberOn Saturday, June 3rd the WGA held their annual weekend Member-Member tournament. This year’s tournament was an Alternate Shot, Shamble, Scramble format with 6 teams competing for the title. Congratulations to the team of Delicia Reynolds and Sandra Mason for their victory! Beth Mozley and Daphne Gwyn narrowly missed out and came in second. Congratulations to Constance Woods for her close up on #11! Thank you to all the ladies who came out.

WGA News Parent Child TournamentThis year’s Parent Child was held in June instead of its annual spot in August. The tournament was held on Saturday, June 17th the day before Father Day’s. This year’s tournament consisted of 5 teams competing in an Alternate Shot format for only 9 holes. Congratulations to our Overall Champions, Tom and Will Hermann for shooting a team score of 44. Congratulations to our flight winners Chris and Ash Midkiff and Frank and Frankie Remmes as well. Thank you to all the teams that came out and participated, we hope to see you all back again next year!

Recycle your used Tennis Balls. Please bring your dead tennis balls and put them in the Tennis Ball Recycle Bin at the Tennis Shop. These balls will be used for schools, nursing homes, dog kennels, etc.
