EDITORIAL

Western Canada continues its momentum and pulls the Canadian economy. Alberta stands out internationally and can boast of a GDP growth of 50% higher than that of Canada (2014 estimates Alberta 3.7% Canada 2.4%). The City of Edmonton in Alberta, where a majority of citizens aged 20-39 years, supplanting Ottawa (Ontario) as the fourth most populous city in Canada.

A demographic boom that comes both from the migration of Canadians from other provinces and immigration (China, Philippines, India and Latin America) workers in search of employment opportunities. The good performance of the market in the West and in Ontario, however, masks some difficulties experienced elsewhere in Canada. The economy of the cities of Montreal, Quebec, Halifax and Ottawa-Gatineau initiated deflation.

The weak labor market and a higher than normal prices for gasoline have limited consumption during the 3rd quarter. However, everything is not gloomy in terms of domestic demand. Business spending could rebound, the natural resource sector has recorded a record with a capacity utilization of around 90%, the most since 10 years.Over the first seven months of 2014, Statistics Canada recorded growth of 7.5% of departures of Canadians to countries overseas (outside the US) compared to the same period in 2013. The number trips to the US (overnight) in the same period from January to July was down 1.4%. With the news about the recovery in employment and the economy in the United States, the end of 2014 appears auspicious.

Does the France will take advantage of these promising conditions?

Tourist situationTravel between Canada and other countries have experienced an increase in May, June and July - Increases recorded in almost all travel categories

Evolution of demand- Demand for luxury retailers is strong across Canada - Significant expansion of shopping centers projects are underway across the country.- Canada remains the fifth preferred destination of "Troqueurs houses". Canadians are the fourth this community Home Exchange.com.- The Millennials carry more business trips than their elders

- Half of young Canadians between 18-30 extend their business by traveling holiday.- Lack of vacation was significantly felt this year in Quebec - The annual Expedia.ca poll showed that Quebeckers closely associate the holidays with their general feeling of happiness and believe they do not take enough days leave.

TOURISM PROSPECTS FOR 2010 TO 2014 IN SELECTED CANADIAN CITIES

With the growth of domestic tourism, it is expected that Canada, traveling overnight and will increase by 1.4% in 2010. This is a marked improvement from the decrease of 3.1% recorded during 2009. The prospects look even better from 2011 to major Canadian cities, thanks to a strong recovery in overseas markets. Some tourist predictions from a report by the Conference Board of Canada for Canadian cities.

ENCOURAGING SIGNS OF MARKETDriven by the excitement of the Olympics, Vancouver is expected to record excellent results in 2010 with growth of 6.9% in the number of leisure trips and overnight from Canada (Figure 1). Only the cities of Calgary and Quebec have an annual growth rate above 3% for the years 2011 to 2014. The concerns of Canadians in the state of their personal finances explain this slow growth in the short term the internal tourist market.

As for the internal market of business tourism, he is recovering from a difficult year, as the country had recorded an average decline of 6.6% in 2009 for this segment. As for accreditation, Vancouver will experience well above the Canadian average performance in 2010 (Chart 2). According to estimates by the Conference Board, the City of Quebec will benefit from a strong recovery in encouraging business tourism in 2010, following a significant decline of 12.7% in 2009, and we anticipate attractive growth of 4 1% in 2011. For the period between 2011 and 2014, it is the city of Calgary that will benefit the largest increases.

The growth rates in the number of US trips are, however, very modest, ranging from 1.1 to 2.6%. For the cities of Montreal and Quebec, anticipated increases in the period do not exceed 1.4%.
