    Eagle Sightings for January~2012

Happy New Year to all Friday Harbor Families!!

Wow!! Can you believe it is 2012? The months go by way too fast (or maybe that only happens wheone is about to turn the BIG - 50). Often in January, many of us think of beginning a new year toestablish goals in the hope to become the individual whom we want to be. Parents can help theirchildren learn how to set and to accomplish goals by modeling. Modeling for our children is apowerful tool! Our children can learn a lot by our sharing the way we identify goals, set priorities,

and take small, steady steps to attain those goals. They become aware of the importance ofdiscipline and persistence to a task. In school I was taught the acronym S.M.A.R.T. when thinkingabout goal setting. Setting goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.I found this tip to be quite helpful in my personal life as well as in my professional life. I like tochoose at least one professional goal and one personal goal to help to create balance in my life.

Here are some of my S.M.A.R.T goals for this year.

I am going to recheck and revise my to do list each night before I leave school.I am going to set aside $100 a month for a July vacation.

I am going to sign up for a yoga class on the island.

Children can also experience success with goal setting if they use the S.M.A.R.T. approach.

I am going to read each night just before bedtime for twenty minutes.I am going to learn my multiplication facts through 10 by spring vacation.

Heres to setting goals and accomplishing them in 2012!!
