WINERY: REGION: COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Bodegas Salentein Uco Valley, Mendoza Argentina VARIETY: VINTAGE: WINEMAKER: Merlot 2010 Gustavo Bauzá 2010 MERLOT Aromas of red and black fruits mingle with an intriguing hint of spice in this intense ruby red wine. The palate bursts with fruit, showing a remarkable presence of soft, silky tannins and a long finish. Ideal with pork, pasta in light sauces, risotto and semi-hard cheeses. The Merlot variety was grown in very select plots of our Finca El Oasis, at 1,050 meters (3.445 feet) above sea level. Vines grown on alluvial soil sitting on a gravel bed with good permeability and drainage. 100% estate vineyards. The 2010 vintage benefited from good weather in the upper reaches of Uco Valley, resulting in a perfect sugar/acidity balance. Drip irrigation provides the plant with the right amount of water for optimum development of foliage. Clusters are protected by leaves from direct exposure to sunlight to help preserve the full expression of the fruit. At the different stages of the cycle, the enologist and the agronomist team up to achieve the best fruit quality. The grapes are harvested at the optimum ripening point. After destemming, the grape is transferred to stainless steel tanks, where cold maceration takes place at 7° -10°C (45-50 F). Select yeasts are inoculated to cause fermentation for 10 to 15 days, aimed at preserving the fruity character of this varietal. After fermentation, the wine is racked by gravity, with no pumping, and is aged in stainless steel tanks.
