Installation

ATTENTION: Before opening the electrical cabinet: Disconnect theelectrical cabinet from the line voltage.

NOTE: Two‐wire connection according to EIA‐RS 485. Line A (green) andline B (red) must be uniform on the entire bus.

To ensure fault‐free operation, the field bus must be equipped with a busterminator (terminating resistors) at the beginning and the end of aPROFIBUS segment.

We recommend attaching both sides of the bus cable screen to protectivegrounding / functional grounding. When the potential is not the same at bothends, lay an equipotential bonding conductor.

Connecting PROFIBUS Cable

CAUTION: Lay the cable outside of the melter such that there is no risk ofstumbling over it.

1 2 3

1. Set the main switch to 0/OFF and open electrical cabinet door.

2. Pass the cable through one of the sealing rings in the socket casing (1)and into the electrical cabinet. Secure with a cable clamp.

3. Put the socket casing into place and secure with the clamps (2).

4. Connect the cable to the bus port plug.

Setting up Interface of Customer's Control UnitTo set up the customer's control unit (PLC) interface to be able to send andreceive data to/from the melter, two steps are involved.

Setting the EtherNet/IP adapter (Gateway) network address

Add the EtherNet adapter (Gateway) to the module list of the customer'sPLC with the aid of RSLogix.

Setting Gateway Network Address

Default of Nordson EtherNet/IP adapter (Gateway): IP address 192.168.0.98

The IP address can be set in these ways:

With the DIP switches on the gateway

With a PC, by using the ARP command (ARP = Address Resolution

Protocol)

 With address configuration software.

With DIP Switches

Only the last part (x) of the IP address (192.168.0.x) is set (binary coded)with the DIP switches (1). The range of values for x is 1 to 254.

Use a small screwdriver to adjust the DIP switches.

Example

DIP switch settings for 192.168.0.98: 01100010DIP 1, 4, 5, 6 and 8 = OFF (0),DIP 2, 3 and 7 = ON (1)

Binary Decimal

0 1 1 0 0 0 1 0 98

DIP switch 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

With a PC

1. Set all DIP switches (1) on the gateway to OFF (00000000). Use a smallscrewdriver to adjust the DIP switches.

2. Create an EtherNet connection with the aid of a crosslink cable betweenthe PC and the gateway (2).

3. Change the IP address from a PC with the aid of the ARP command:

arp -s <IP address> <MAC address>ping <IP address>arp -d <IP address>

Observe the following:

The MAC address (Media Access Control) can be found on a label onthe Gateway. It provides the unit with a unique address within thenetwork.

Since the ARP command automatically sets the subnet mask to255.255.255.0, the first three bytes of the IP address must beidentical to those of the PC from which the command was executed.

Example:

PC: 10.10.14.100

Melter interface: 10.10.14.x (The range of values for x is 1 to 254, inthis case: 225):

arp -s 10.10.14.225 00-30-11-02-11-F5ping 10.10.14.225arp -d 10.10.14.225

The arp -d command is optional. It deletes the entry in the ARP table.

Index Protocols and Communication DataList

Definition of Term(s)In the following text, the term melter or bulk melter is used to designateVersaBlue melters as well as VersaPail and VersaDrum bulk melters.

General InformationThe field bus interface provides the ability to centrally compile data for furtherprocessing.

The section Index Protocols and Communication Data List applies toPROFIBUS, ControlNet and EtherNet/IP field buses. For bettercomprehension, only the pair master/slave is used in the text.

Data Interface

When data is exchanged between the master and Nordson melters, the datais accessed via indexes (Data index). All of the communication data iscompiled in the communication data list; refer to page 5‐23.

The index process works with small data blocks. This prevents the field busfrom being burdened with unnecessary data.

In the selection of the index protocol, the operator determines how the datablocks are transmitted.

Transmission and Receive Data Block

NOTE: Communication is always seen from the point of view of the master.

Two data blocks aid in communication. A block transmitted by the master isthe same as a command to the Nordson melter; a received data block is thesame as a reply from the Nordson melter.

The master may not formulate and transmit a new command until after arrivalof the receive data block.

Example: Retrieval of Actual Temperature Values

The master sends a transmission data block to the Nordson melter. Thedata block contains a command that the Nordson melter is to process.

Data Block Processing

The master formulates a command by determining the transmission datablock. The Nordson melter processes the command and formulates the reply(receive data block).

The master processes the data or repeats the command until a reply isreceived from the Nordson melter. Only one command is processed at atime. The Nordson melter keeps the reply available until the masterformulates a new command.

When a job (Command) cannot be executed, the Nordson melter replies witha fault signal in Status. The master recognizes by this signal whether thepreviously transmitted command was correctly processed by the Nordsonmelter.

The master must check whether the Acknowledge data (Data index andChannel number) from the Nordson melter corresponds to the data in thetransmission data block. If the data are identical, the job is completed. Eachdata index can also be retrieved to check values written earlier.

NOTE: Melter control, Melter control1 Melter control2, Melter control 3 andLine speed value for motor 1-n are processed by the Nordson melter forevery transmission data block, regardless of whether 1, 3 or 6 was enteredas command identification by Command.

P/N 7135952_11 2013 Nordson CorporationFELD_BUS_IPC

Command

The master has to send a Command to the Nordson melter. Every Commandis defined by a command identification.

Valid commandidentification

Function

1 dez No communication data command for theNordson melter

3 dez The master wishes to readcommunication data from the Nordsonmelter

(Refer to Communication Data List)

6 dez The master wishes to writecommunication data to the Nordsonmelter

(Refer to Communication Data List)

Command = 0 is illegal (Refer to Communication Monitoring). All othercommand identifications are invalid and generate an index protocol error inStatus or Status1.

Communication Monitoring

If the melter is in Field bus or Dual control mode and No command from fieldbus master is indicated on the control panel, possible error sources are:

The transmission data block contains the illegal command = 0.

Field bus cable broken, defective or not connected

Interruptions in communication, e.g. if the master is not switched on

Defective or missing bus terminating resistor

The network was not set up properly

Sudden resets or crashes, e.g. due to electro‐magnetic interference

NOTE: When a fault occurs, the melter control system stops all motors thatare running.

Index Protocols and Communication Data List 5‐17

P/N 7135952_11 2013 Nordson Corporation FELD_BUS_IPC

Data Index

Indexes determined by the master are assigned to the communication data. The data index is used to address communication data that is to betransmitted or received (Refer to page 5‐23, Communication Data List).

If the Acknowledge data index of the receive data block is identical with thetransmitted data index, the job is completed.

Data index set to "0" (zero) is interpreted as No data index.

Channel Number

The master has to determine a channel number that is valid e.g. for atemperature channel, pressure channel or motor.

Beginning with the determined channel number as starting channel, thecommand to read data for six sequential channels is executed.

The range of channel numbers extends from 0 to 54. Channel number set to"0" (zero) is interpreted as No channel number.

If the Acknowledge channel number of the receive data block is identical withthe transmitted channel number, the job is completed.

NOTE: Channel number "0" is used for general melter data, e.g. programversions.

Write Data Value

In Write data value the master writes the data values for the settings in theNordson melter.

NOTE: The communication data is transmitted in Intel format, i. e. the lowbyte of a word is placed on the lowest address and the high byte on thehighest address. The master may need to switch bytes, if the formats of themaster and the Nordson melter do not agree.

Example 1

The master writes a data value of 25 minutes for the parameter System readydelay time {{9}}.

Transmission data:

Data index Channel number Write data value

9 0 25 dez(25 min)

Example 2

The master writes a data value of 31.5‐1 for the parameter Speed setpoint inmanual mode {{32}} for motor 1.

Transmission data:

Data index Channel number Write data value

32 1 315 dez(31.5 min‐1)

Transmission data with decimal places, such as parameters and setpoints, must be multiplied by 10 for transmission.

Read Data Value

In Read data value the master reads the data values received from theNordson melter. The Read data values of six sequential channels aretransmitted with every receive data block (Refer to example).

Example 1

The master reads the actual temperature values {{120}}. Channel number isset to 9.

Line Speed Value for Motor 1‐n (Key‐to‐line Mode)

Line speed value for motor 1‐n consists of additional values in thetransmission data block. They need not be set by the master. This data isrequired only for motors working in key‐to‐line mode.

The range of values extends from 1.0 to 100.0 %, and the transmission datamust always be multiplied by a factor of 10 for transmission.

Line speed value for motor 1‐n set to "0.0" (zero) is interpreted as No speedsetpoint.

NOTE: Line speed value for motor 1-n is processed by the Nordson melterfor every transmission data block, regardless of whether 1, 3 or 6 wasentered by Command.

In key‐to‐line the pump speed is regulated by Line speed value for motor 1-n.Every motor works with its own line speed signal.

The parameters Line speed for min./max. pump speed and Min. / Max. pumpspeed apply to every motor.

Example of Startup with Standard Index ProtocolFor indexes and bit positions, refer to page 5‐23, Communication Data List.

1. Set the main switch to I/ON.

NOTE: The control unit needs some time to boot after the melter is switchedon. No data can be exchanged via the field bus during this time.

2. With Profibus: Set the field bus address on the control panel. Other fieldbuses: Set the address on the gateway.

3. Select control mode Field bus or Dual on the control panel.

4. Set the general melter data as well as limits and setpoints for all of themotors, temperature channels and pressure sensors.

Examplea. Set Heaters ON (Melter Control, bit 0)

b. Enable motors #1 and #2 (Melter Control, bit 2, bit 3)

c. If the motors are to operate in key‐to‐line, set Key‐to‐line mode (for allmotors) (Melter Control, bit 7)

d. Set the temperature setpoint {{115}} for channel number 4 to 180 °C

e. Set Command to 6 (The master wishes to write data to the Nordsonmelter)

f. Set the line speed signal for motor #1 to 20.4 min‐1 and for motor #2to 32.6 min‐1.

Transmission data block:

Melter controlBit Position

Command Data index Channelnumber

Write datavalue

1 0 0 0 1 1 0 1 6 115 4 180 204 326 ... ...

Bit 0 Heaters ON/OFF is edge‐controlled. To switch on, 0 -> 1 (rising edge)Bit 7 Key‐to‐line is edge‐controlled. To switch on, 0 -> 1 (rising edge)

Check the Acknowledge data of the receive data block (replay from theNordson melter): If the Acknowledge data is identical to the transmitteddata index and the channel number, the job (Command = 6) iscompleted.

Definition of "Field Bus Recipe"

A Field bus recipe contains all of the data that can be changed via the fieldbus, except for Motor mode (Data index 30).

Important when Saving and Loading

Field bus recipes can not be saved or loaded via the Webserver

No values may be changed via other indexes during saving and loading

An attempt to load a recipe that does not exist will trigger an error on thefield bus (Bit 14: Incorrect data index received)

During command processing, the Data index and the Channel numberareanswered with 0 in the receive data block on the field bus. Data index andChannel number do not fulfill the requirement from the transmission datablock until the process is completed.

Saving a recipe overwrites a recipe previously saved under that recipenumber

Saving and loading are not possible as long as the control panel screenRecipes (V12.1) is open. An attempt to save a recipe will trigger an erroron the field bus (Bit 15: Data access not permitted)
