Game world• The pitch would be classified as terrain. The stadium would be the

architecture as you cannot affect anything in the stadium. The advertising boards are also architecture. They may change but they do not impact the game itself, all that can happen is the ball will bounce off them. The ball and the nets would be the objects. The ball because you have to move it around or run with it in order to score the goal. The goal would be an object also because if you hit the post or crossbar it will determine where the ball will go after that.

Characters

• Playable characters: this would be any footballer and any team on the game.

• Non playable: Would be the officials on the game. The crowd, the warming up substitutes.

Perspectives• FIFA 15 is a 3D, photo realistic game which is viewed

in third person apart from when you are playing as just one of the players instead of the whole team. The photo-realism gives you the feeling that you’re really there. You are also in more control than you would be watching a game on TV.

FMV(full motion video)

• Will be when the players first come out of the tunnel, walking off for half time, players being shown a yellow card or being sent off, substitutions being made and shaking hands at full time. On the old FIFA games they would include features such as fighting over throw-ins and a players pre match nerves.

This is an FMV. You have no real control over this

Avatar

• The Avatar’s in FIFA would be the players of the team you choose to control. When you pass the ball, it will change with player you are controlling.

Game type

• This game is both a single player and multi-player game. There are various things you can do on single player. These include playing friendlies, tournaments and career mode. Another option is Ultimate Team which is both a single and multiplayer option. It is also a multiplayer game, you can play offline friendlies and online friendlies.

• FIFA’s main rival is Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). On PES you can only play in higher leagues and as certain teams. PES does not have many official licences. PES also does not have a career mode option because with there being no lower leagues there is no promotion or relegation.

Page 8: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Narrative• This is a game where you will create your own narrative on career mode. You can set

your own personal objectives like winning a cup or gaining promotion depending on who you pick e.g. if you did a career mode with Real Madrid your target would be to win absolutely everything in your 1st year but if you did a career mode with Accrington Stanley (who are they) you would target promotion and possibly the last 16 of a cup competition and as you make your way up the leagues you will aim to win more trophies.

• The fact you can set your own targets gives you a lot more freedom which may persuade people to buy FIFA even more. PES however does not give you so much freedom of choice.

Game setting • Any game you play would be in a football stadium as

you would expect. You can set the game in either of the four seasons and which specific time of day you want it played at. When you play a friendly you can choose which stadium you play at but on FIFA 15 you do not.

Goals/challenge

• As it is a football game the objective is clearly to score more goals than your opponent. It could also be to win the league or the cup on tournament or career mode or even to secure a big money transfer on career mode. There are fewer challenges on PES because of the lack of licences.

Page 11: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Rewards• As you achieve different things in different games you

can get different rewards such as points for keeping a clean sheet. Winning a cup or league would also be classed as an award when you win it for the first time. Although you win a trophy you don’t always get money if you have won that trophy already on a game. Many other games have cheats but FIFA does not.

This could also be classed as an FMV

Page 12: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Rules • The rules of FIFA are basically the rules of football, if you make a

tackle without winning the ball it’s a foul – the game will decide if a player gets yellow card, red card or just a warning. The offside rule is also the same as are goal kicks, throw ins and corners. Sometimes however the referee may show a red card for something that is only a yellow offence or sometimes not even a booking at all. For example an accidental trip on someone when you’re not last man before the goalkeeper.

Page 13: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Difficulty

• On FIFA 15 you are allowed to adjust the difficulty settings. If it is the 1st FIFA game you have ever played you should try out beginner mode or if you’ve played a few then professional would be best for you. If you really want to challenge yourself try world class or legendary.

• Depending on the situation of the match and who you’re playing it may become more difficult as the game goes on. For example I was once playing as Manchester United and only beating Arsenal 2-1 and as the game went on it became harder to hold on to that lead. Whereas if you are playing somebody like Crystal Palace you are more likely to race into a 3 or 4-0 so they would be more likely to collapse and give up.

Page 14: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Inventory

• The inventory of FIFA 15 would be the choice of kits between each team. Another form of inventory would be your choice of stadiums and choice of ball to play with.

A choice of stadium Kit selection

Page 15: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Scoring

• As expected with a football the scoring system would be the goals that you score. In career mode the scoring system would be the points you get in the league as well. On Worms 3D

Page 16: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Win condition

• The win condition on FIFA 15 would be to beat your opponent in each individual match. And on career mode it would also be to finish top of your league and win the final of a cup which involves reaching that final first.

Page 17: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Balance

• On professional difficulty it would make sure teams are as difficult to play against as they would be in real life. So for example it is always harder to play against Bayern Munich as a team like Manchester United than it would be to play against team like Charlton Athletic. This was apparent when I played against Tottenham as Newcastle United and it was quite hard, I only won 2-1 but then I played against West Bromwich Albion as Manchester United and it was a lot easier as I won 4-1. This isn’t always the case, sometimes it’s harder to play as the away team than the home team.

Addiction • In the year 2013 an addiction to video games was classed as a mental

disorder. FIFA 15 has a reputation for being very addictive. I personally do not spend enough time on video games to be classed as an addict. A good way to tell how addicted someone is to FIFA is by checking how far into their career mode they are so for example if they were 10 seasons in they could be classed as an addict as the game was only released in September (written on 25th March) whereas someone who was only 2 seasons in could perhaps get away with not be called an addict.

• Video game addiction is described as an impulse control disorder, which does not involve use of an intoxicating drug and is very similar to pathological gambling. http://www.addictionrecov.org/Addictions/?AID=45

Digital graphics

• FIFA 15 is a photo realistic game. This is because there is nothing in the game that would make anyone look un-humanlike. An example of this Wayne Rooney, he looks like he does in real life on FIFA 15. The producers have also designed the pitch so that it will cut up as the game goes on.

Pixel art

• FIFA 15 is game that is 3D isometric sprites. This is because it goes into quite a lot of depth and is made to look like a live televised match is taking place.

Page 21: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Concept art

• They would take photographs or scans of the players instead of using concept art because they put major focus on making the game very lifelike.

Page 22: Fifa 15 (1) (1)

Background graphics

• The background graphics in the game of FIFA 15 would be the crowd and the stadium. It would be photorealistic because the supporters in the ground will not have oversized eyes as an example.

As you can see nobody in the crowd has any special features

Mini-map

On FIFA there are any different forms of in game interface. The main example of this is the scoreboard in the top left of the screen. Other things will pop up for example if a player gets injured there will be a flash up of who the injured player and if a substitution is made they’ll tell you which player is coming on and who is coming off. There a place in the bottom left which tells you which player is on the ball for the home team or nearest to it as it does likewise on the bottom left for the away team. In the middle of the bottom there is a mini-map which can make you aware of where your team mates are and where your opponents are.

Box art• On the FIFA cover they have 2 players on the cover who will

both look like they are in the middle of a game. It will be photos of them in real life and not how they appear on the game, this is to give people the impression that if they play the game it will give them the feeling that they are actually controlling a real live game.

Online review

• For all the graphical improvements, the odd glitch does remain. Far less often will you see a player’s arm pass through the body of his team mate during a goal celebration
