GCP /ARM/005/SWI Phase II project “Technical and institutional support to veterinary services in Armenia’’

The project outputs:

1) Institutional strengthening of veterinary services

2) Support to improvement of brucellosis prevention and control

strategy at regional and national levels.

-Continues vaccination for cattle, sheep and goats to reduce the

level of brucellosis in animals and human

-Capacities of public and private sectors to implement Brucellosis

Vaccination campaign at central and regional level are

strengthened

- Public awareness on prevention and control of brucellosis

The overall goal of the project is the strengthening of veterinary

services public sector in Syunik marz contributing to improvement of

the food safety system and sustainable agricultural development in

Armenia

A stepwise approach for progressive

control of brucellosis in animals

• Consists of a roadmap of four stages each with a situation

analysis, expected outcome and key activities

• Aims to assist member countries in launching, updating and

pursuing brucellosis control programmes

• Requirements and performance indicators are defined for

each step

• A source of up-to-date information on brucellosis control

•Describes factors influencing implementation of the roadmap

(externalities)

•The Roadmap document is useful for its intended purpose, i.e.as generic

guidelines for country veterinary authorities to prepare and manage a

brucellosis control programme.

• Should apply to all major domestic livestock species in one document.

• Endorsed as a useful way for national veterinary authorities for planning

and implementing of activities to reduce brucellosis in livestock.

•FAO is requested to prepare a chapter with comprehensive guidelines to

national authorities on how to prepare national strategy documents for

brucellosis control
