Fifth Grade Math

3rd and 4th grade assessment data points are utilized for 5th grade placement decisions.

Standardized test scores, classroom performance on unit common math assessments, successful completion of summer bridge and the summative bridge assessment are used in combination to place into advanced and accelerated math.

The 3 levels of math students place into are: on-level 5CC, advanced 5/6CC, and accelerated 6/7CC.

All criteria must be met for placement into advanced or accelerated math.

D181 has a process to appeal placement if a student meets the appeal guidelines.

Summer Bridge CoursesThe summer math bridge (MB) courses were developed for students entering grades 3 and above who qualify and are recommended to accelerate their math pathway within District 181. Each course provides in-depth instruction, practice, and assessment for standards needed to bridge to an advanced/accelerated math pathway.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Bridge 3(on-level to advanced)

This course is designed for students who were placed in 4rd grade math during the 2019-2020 school year. This course provides instruction on the 5th grade standards that they will need to be successful in advanced 5th grade math.

Bridge 4(advanced to accelerated)

This course is designed for students who were placed in advanced 4th grade math during the 2019-2020 school year. This course provides instruction on the 5th and 6th grade standards they will need to be successful in accelerated 5th grade math.
