Welcome to Rock Spring Congregational

United Church of ChristNo matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey,

you are welcome here!

Rock Spring is a progressive Christian community – welcoming, compassionate, and joyful. We love and care for one another. We strive to discern God’s still-speaking voice through worship, study, fellowship, and service. We work for peace and social, economic, and ecological justice. We seek a greater understanding of others, and thus ourselves, recognizing that all persons are members of our one human family. Our community prepares and sustains us as we work together to bring about the world that we believe God intends.

“The yoke is hard because the teachings of Jesus are radical: enemy love, unconditional forgiveness, extreme generosity. The yoke is

easy because it is accessible to all — the studied and the ignorant, the rich and the poor, the religious and the nonreligious.”

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (UNISON) Holy God, For being so proud, so smart, so able That we forget how to be humble, how to learn, and how to seek help; For being so smug, so anxious, so mean That we forget we are not always right, or in control, or good; For being less than what you created us to be: Forgive us, and make us whole. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER (UNISON) Holy One*, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. ANNOUNCEMENTSHelp us Pass the Peace! Passing the Peace is one of the beloved traditions of Rock Spring. We would love to include you on video in one of our upcoming services passing the peace to others. The process is very simple and the recording can be done on your iPhone. If you are interested in participating, please email [email protected] to receive instructions.

New Zoom Procedures Starting July 19, Zoom is changing its meeting settings to ensure a higher level of security. As a result, all Zoom calls will require either a passcode or a waiting room to join a call. Please double check the details for summer Zoom events as the recurring links may get updated. Although this sounds a little complicated, rest assured that most will not notice a difference in how Zoom gatherings work — you’ll still be able to click the link provided and get connected.

Board meetings, sacred circles, lectionary, and other defined-group events will have passcodes so that participants can join the meeting without a Rock Spring host in attendance. Large Zoom events that are open to a wider audience, such as coffee hours, classes, and Getting to Know You gatherings will have waiting rooms so that the Rock Spring host can let participants on to the main call when the host is ready to begin. If you have questions about whether or not you need a passcode for a meeting you are attending, please feel free to contact Office Administrator Kathryn Grams at [email protected].

Poetry & Prayers Monday, July 6 at 8:00 p.m. Join Laura and others from Rock Spring and beyond for a time of poetry and prayers. You’re welcome to share a writing by yourself or someone else on any topic that is close to you. You’re welcome to join us if you don’t know if you “believe in” prayer, if you don’t have a poem to read, or if you aren’t sure what to do with all you are feeling now. Come as you are, to listen or to share, to connect or to think. Our next Poetry & Prayers gathering will be in August. Join Zoom Meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82406941833 Or dial by your location: +1 646-876-9923 US (New York)

Join us for Lectionary/Adult Bible Study (via Zoom) Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. This weekly conversation is facilitated by the pastor for the coming Sunday. Explore texts and themes that will be used in worship, learn more about the context or author of the passages, and perhaps influence the sermon through your questions or insights. All are welcome! Join Zoom Meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81687251753 Or dial by your location: +1 646-876-9923 US (New York)

SAM Grants 2020 Did you know that Rock Spring gives away grants every year? Rock Spring’s annual grant program provides non-profit organizations with small grants for operating costs or special projects, and we’re looking for help to choose this year’s grantees this summer. Email Diana Maxwell ([email protected]) for more information, or if you’re interested in helping. No experience necessary! If you know of an organization that could use a small grant (up to $3,000) send a contact name and email to Diana and we’ll send a grant application their way. The grant application isn’t quite ready yet, but will be soon! This year we’re particularly interested in organizations that are working on social justice issues.
